>This legit happened to a friend.
This actually happened to me, and how I lost about 2/3 of my collection about 5 years ago. We just bought a house, and our inspector missed some detail with the waste line being full of roots. Our first day there the basement floor had about an inch of shit/piss water...It was a finished basement. I had a few plastic tubs, but most of my stuff was in cardboard boxes. Lots of big box pc. Most of my loose games got shitted up. Systems were in plastic tubs thankfully. I use flash carts now. fuck that nonsense. Snes, and PSX games were ruined. I also collected Gamecube, and somehow it was unharmed totally, so I sold it. It wasn't big financially, but some of the stuff was collected just for the sake of collection & future resale. The media isn't what is important to a collector. A CIB 1st print case with the game is. It cost me $7k to get my sewer issue fixed, and it involved tearing up the front yard. Video games were the least of my worries.

Not to blow your mind, but you can connect one console to a ton of tvs with RCA splitters. I used to do it with 360/ps3 as well over component to get a cheap split for capture card and tv.

With most analog outputs the signal is just blasted outwards and the input is looking for anything it can get to amplify/display.

The issue would be ground loops and weakening the signal, so there is a limit to how much you can split it.

Idk man, painting consoles turns them into niche appeal objects. You could charge more for them if you're lucky, but you'd have to wait/find the right buyer who'd be willing to pay more depending on the design you put on it. A clean system in refreshed original colors would have wider appeal.

If trying to sell the yellowed consoles for $40 hasn't worked, how about lowering the prices by the same amount as the paint and painting materials would cost (if you don't already have them)?

Ebay sellers are all scum. He claims he cleans his shit because that appeals to potential consumers, and most retro video shit looks clean enough at a cursory glance that most will never notice. Of course, once you called him on his BS, there's no way he was going to back off because then he'd have to admit he was wrong, and humans are like 99.9% incapable of doing that, so he's just hoping you imagine some scenario where, somehow, the items got dirty in the mail. You're just an outlier. He probably doesn't clean a single thing, but the risk that someone will notice and call him on it does not outweigh the benefit of him claiming his stuff is clean. out of all the copies that were made, besides faulty units and breaking from over use or negelct... we also have to account for all the times video were thrown out and wasted like this. thats alot of stuff just trashed in these pictures, then there are the people who post videos of them breaking meme things like retro video just to watch the world burn!

there was a time around 2000-ish that retro video games were basically garbage and sold for pennies on the dollar. I think alot of mass trashing of collections and what not met the same fate. that begs the question, do we over calculate the amount of things that have survived? what if there is half the number of things left then there was during production?

Like everything I’ve posted ITT it was just temporary. I didn’t have the exact resistor so I had to fashion together a substitute by soldering a bunch of resistors together and getting relatively close to the resistance called for in the AV mod instructions. And since I was going to have to desolder the entire PPU anyways meaning I’d have to reattach everything all over again, I wasn’t concerned with looks.

Yes, I remember something similar for the PS2. There were those discs that straight used cut out parts of original discs to make you use the pirated ones.
I think they were called Swap Magic or something and if you looked at the data side you could actually see that they were cut out

>> No.5062609

>with some mixing & matching.
I had to do this to my old PS1. I don't know why but the modchip stopped work someday and I had to tear it down and re-solder the thing. On doing that a small resistor melted and I had to go through hundreds of sites to know the resistance of that piece of shit. Once I found out I just slapped on it a normal resistor and it worked.

That's an XBox dev kit. The guy who owned it posted on a completely dead subreddit asking what he should do it, if it might be valuable or something. A couple months later, since he received no replies, he gave it to his son, who gutted it, including wiping the drive, to build a gaming PC, and when he posted it on a much more active subreddit, everyone went rabid on him since the drive could have contained "valuable" information.

Over the past week, large areas of Australia's eastern seaboard have been ravaged by floods. Billions of dollars worth of damage has been done, and sitting quietly amidst that tally is this man's retro gaming hardware collection.

Aussie collector NFG's house in Queensland was among those affected, flood waters getting into his home and destroying many of his personal belongings. Among those belongings was an amazing collection of retro gaming hardware, once a glittering array of the medium's past, now a worthless pile of mud-soaked plastic and chipboards (and rare Nintendo hanafuda cards).
