They'll find an excuse to have even less games than the SNES mini, the games will look awful and they'll miss massive chunks of the library for one of the many sports games, wrestling games, or mediocre party games the system is known for in popular culture.

I prefer Majora's Masks gameplay, particularly the 3 day mechanic is a neat spin on the idea of a hard time limit. >> No.5018468

Because I hate it so much that I enjoy hating on it. The N64 stands for everything I hate about videogames.

>sacrificing frame rate for grafix
>focusing only on the new 3D gimmick
>completely discarding experience and expertise of 2D devs
>pissing away 3rd party support in favor of exclusivity shittery

The adoption of 3D graphics has been a catastrophic event in videogaming and couldn't have gone much worse if you tried to engineer it that way. No other console represents this misguided early adoption of untested, unfamiliar and unreliable tech as the N64.

There should have been a whole generation of Nintendo games that looked and ran like Legend of Mana, Resident Evil and Tekken 3. Detailed sprites with a painted look to them could have fueled such a massive amount of games with magical moods to them, taking advantage of peak 2D graphics capabilities combined with years of experience in developing 2D games. Experience that was pissed away in the pursuit of ugly 3D graphics with janky gamepaly and clunky controls.

Adoption was way too early and the hardware was simply not able to support the ideas and visions of game creators trying their hand at 3D. Low frame rates are the boon of my existence. How some people can tolerate them is a mystery to me. The only way to get decent framerates in those early days was to have a 2D background, like in RE or Tekken, with a polygon model in front of it. Full 3D at that time was simply not possible with a decent framerate.

It all depends of what genres you like.

The N64 has the best 3D platformers, FPS, and racing games of its time and arguably ever.
If you're not into these genres you better stay away from it.

I won't recommend any hidden gen. Just start with the most famous games and go from there. Mario 64, banjo, star fox, diddy kong racing, goldeneye, paper mario, and so on...

>There should have been a whole generation of Nintendo games that looked and ran like Legend of Mana, Resident Evil and Tekken 3
Huh. N64 actually has a port of Resident Evil 2.
It also has a bunch of 3D fighting games, although probably none as good as Tekken 3 (Virtual Fighter 2 is better though), but I actually like the RPG mode in Flying Dragon, for example.
As for Legend of Mana, there aren't many games that look like that in general, it has a very distinct look and aesthetic. But if you mean RPGs with 2D graphics, there's Ogre battle 64 or Zool (JP only).
Still, I don't think the adoption of 3D graphics was "catastrophic", it was what was bound to happen, 3D graphics have been hyped ever since the NES days or even earlier, with games like Battle Zone.
But I digress, I think you already adopted a posture with the "I enjoy hating on it" line. I won't change your mind, nor I care to. Just wanted to comment on the games you mentioned.

I'd be interested in an N64 mini if o lying for an easy way of playing the games on an HDTV, authenticity is great but often I want ease and non-blurry emulation.

However, I think it'll be missing loads of games, hopefully it's emulated well unlike Wii U, and you probably can't easily hack and add games to it as the console is a nightmare for anyone to figure out.

Sure, as long as you can play 4p, the controller's stick quality is good (and doesn't have terrible deadzones), it's compatible with Expansion Pak/Controller Pak games (aka it has goemon or castlevania) and the game list isn't just a mix between Wii and Wii U's N64 VC with something like Sin and Punishment or F-Zero X Expansion Kit as a "bonus".

Yes for a few sideways reasons. I am interested firstly in the controller. If the analog sticks are the same as the real N64, I will be gutting them. Secondly, I am interested to see how they either emulate or run the games. N64 is tricky to emulate, so Id not be shocked to see something that is an actual miniature N64. If it is emulated, I would love to see how that helps the modding community.

IF they make them, Id love it if it was just small hardware and supported carts. Internal storage w/online connectivity....basically just a custom wii running with n64 hardware. Online gameplay of some of the first party stuff could be amazing. Is it possible to offer more ram to games to help them with frame rates? I hope they make something bad ass, because the last 2 mini systems did not get me to purchase...I did buy an SNES mini controller for my wii....

I honestly hope they simply skip this however. Really. They could screw it up really really bad.

>If possible, post your collections and stuff!

Thing is that some games might break with higher framerate because they were made with slowdown/framedrops in mind DK64 for example there's the kong shooting gallery and the barrel slot machine minigames which becomes really hard to beat because of the lack of lag.

It won't have the wrestling games. The WWF name can't be used anymore so all references to it would need to be altered or censored. The WCW games won't be on it either because Vince spent years and tons of money trying to bury that name. Even then, they don't do fan service and they don't like bringing up the past unless it'll make them some real money.

I always liked the Virtual Pro games better, but the appeal outside of Japan would be small. I'm pretty sure they could get away with putting those on there because they used fake names for the wrestlers to avoid needing licensing.

Hold on, sorry to tell you a few things: you can discount the possibility it won't be emulated. They don't make the parts anymore. Not only are the parts obsolete but the machines they used to make the parts are obsolete. It's all past history. They will go with the 100x cheaper option. If there was such a thing as clone N64s like there are clone NESes, maybe it's possible something like that would happen, but as a heavily stripped down supercomputer the N64 was a bit of a freakish monster to begin with... it's not happening.

I'd also discount them using anything other than a potentiometer analogue stick for the same reasons - why the fuck would they bother going for starting up manufacturing a unique part like that? As anyone who has had experience with trying to buy 3rd party N64 controllers knows it's extremely hard to get them to feel right or even tolerable, they just don't work how they're supposed to. It's not an autistic thing, it's a "send this piece of shit back right now" after trying it thing. There was the a kickstarter that got over $100k for the fighters n64 controller and it couldn't get it right at all. This ties in with the other point about them emulating - because The controller will not be the same and it will also not be real hardware.

Calm down bro, none of that other stuff you're talking about is happening at all. If they were going to do it on real hardware (they won't), why would it be smaller? It wouldn't be smaller.
