Here's my current setup, and my kid playing a crappy Wii game.

Entertaining the idea of scrapping this huge entertainment unit and building a custom one, as I'm out of room for my consoles (as you can see by the Genesis stacked on top of the NES).

I'd love to see your setups anons.

With a setup and collection like that, why do you have the Classic systems?

>> No.5021525

I bought the NES Classic before it's re-release when it was considered tough to get and collectible. It's still in the box, and I'll probably leave it that way.

The SNES Classic is the only thing I have plugged into the main TV upstairs. It's modded with a hundred or so extra games and it gets used almost every day. My collection isn't crazy, and I'm missing almost anything that's worth big bucks, so it's great to have another way to play SNES games that I'm probably never attain due to high prices.

I don't see why you would. Everything you have fits incredibly well already. Perhaps you can change the "internal" configuration with more or different sized shelves. You could build small supports to lift the TV up, and you could possibly have room for the Xbox & wii under the TV.
You could also make a shelf in the area above the tv where there are stacks oc cd & genesis games.

Is it real wood? If so it would be pretty simple to take out side and use a stripper on and you could restain to match the darker tones of your floor. You could stain or paint it near black to blend it with the shelf to the side as well.

Lose the end table with the speaker, and build a shelf on the wall, shimmy the wall on either side for the speakers.

Just my opinion. You also could do nothing, and it would continue to be awesome! Nice collection btw. Play lots of games with the kids when you can. Mine and I are doing Super Mario world snes, and its a blast. They remember and cherish that shit, even if you hate the game.

Our family's only tv is pic related. I keep all my discs/carts & other stuff in storage totes. Systems run from flash memory when possible. The modded wii with emulation allowed me to be a casual scrub and store my snes with my sister in law for her kids, my nes with my brother because, and my n64 with my sister. My kids play the shit out of the wii still. Id love to have a nice stereo system, but part of my deal is that we are renovating room by room, and I don't know what the final thing will be. I would like my "stuff" built into a wall somehow. I am very much a fan of corner stations especially with CRT tvs. If you have the right corner you can really go big and not really lose much room. If I make 2 side shelves for this with 45 degree angles, the whole unit would fit great and look very pro.

Shimmy the entertainment center to the side for the speakers. This is an official edit.

Thanks for the great suggestions. It's not real wood unfortunately, and I'd really like to build something that's custom size for only the consoles and TV. I'll get a dedicated shelf for the collection of games and move it off to the side. I think it will make for a much neater looking collection, while getting all the consoles into a tighter area for controller cord length reasons.

I really love playing games with my kid, and we're into SMW too! It's mostly just me finishing levels all while maintaining enough extra lives to keep us both afloat. He is getting better though, and he occasionally finishes a level.

I saw earlier in a different thread about someone's kid asking them what was wrong with the graphics when shown an older game. I think that's really sad. My kid started off on SMB, and has since tried way too many old games to list. He especially likes the Sonic games because he's able to finish levels pretty consistently. Not bad for a 3 year old! He also likes racing games of all sorts, and he's getting the hang of steering around the track fairly well. I'm excited for what the future of gaming with him will bring.

>> No.5021662

Another reason for wanting to build something is because I'm out of console room, and I still want to buy 3-4 more.

PC Engine, Saturn, Dreamcast, and probably a PS1.

Oh ya, then I would trash it. I would also try to find a spot on shelves for speakers...if you are doing a custom job. Might as well make that whole wall into usable "storage/display" shelves. Perhaps consider in your build that you may find a larger TV, and you could fill the area in with temp shelves. Just thoughts.

>>5021659
>I saw earlier in a different thread about someone's kid asking them what was wrong with the graphics when shown an older game.

My kids have access to games from the NES through the Wii-u & PC. Most of the games they play are Snes & N64. I somewhat keep them away from garbage shovelware, and they have good tastes in games.
I think if you keep them busy with with you have, they will always enjoy it. I have always had a pile of "retro" systems plugged in....back when my kids were little (over 15 years ago) retro gaming wasn't a thing that I was aware of. The modded wii reallly allowed me to box up a whole pile of things...half of which weren't even plugged in. 10 years later, my buddy who moved 900 miles away is mailing back my Sega + 32x. I almost can't wait, but its going right back into a box lol. I offered him a PSX in trade, but he declined.

Yeah that's probably worth integrating. I got bored at work and created a pixeled to-scale mock-up of the setup with excel.. Yeah, really bored.

I recently picked up the official Sony stand for TV, so that's also a main catalyst for this change.

It is outstanding, and crisp. I never fiddled with any service menus or anything. This goofball 20" model is SD only, but has component, composite and Svideo. It is straight up baller for wii & xbox component video. I couldn't be any happier.

Its getting setup in the family room this week with an incoming wii. It will be a family room setup because I don't really care for my in-law's kids screwing with my family's systems. They are lacking in manners....I am willing to give it a try for laughs, but I envision a broken wiimote.

TA-F6B. It's one of the nicest consumer amps Sony ever made. I wouldn't hunt one down unless you're serious about audio quality, they usually cost multiple hundreds of dollars.

Humblestation here, I downsized from moving recently and got rid of my good TV. Tough break but I'm still having fun, and I'm far from a lack of games to play. I'm just doing the basic now since I don't really care much atm if it looks sloppy. The LED amp to the side is for playing non-backlit portables, it works very well for illuminating screens. Stop being a contrarian just for the sake of it. To connect a small pc to a TV like that you'd need a video converter, or a video card that outputs a supported signal, as well as finding the right drivers and finally setting up some sort of front end if you don't want to be stuck using the mouse and keyboard when booting up. Nearing its final form. Apologies for the shit lighting, but I have my setup in a dark corner on purpose. Was thinking about getting some floor/tower speakers, but since adding an equalizer, I get a LOT of punch out of these little bookshelf units. If you're not scared/triggered by audiofagging, an equalizer is a neat addition, it's really fun playing with all the levels and hearing how it clearly changes the balance of the different frequencies, especially on 8 and 16 bit systems.

No pics, but I have a bunch of 240p/480i consoles hooked up in front of a 20 inch PVM. The main issue I'm having is how to set up a proper sound system for everything. Most of the consoles that run through my RGB SCART setup are fine because I have the audio pass through the PVM and into a separate speaker system. But the problem is I have consoles like N64/Gamecube that are plugged in via component and S-video, and then there's the genesis where the sound is pulled separately from the audio jack. What this means is that a lot of the time when I want to play different consoles, I need to get behind the TV and manually switch around audio cables. It's a real pain in the ass, and I wish I had a more elegant solution to my issue

Looks pretty good, but the lighting is total shit. Apologize again for it!!

Sorry, senpai! Lighting is bad for pictures, but comfy as fuck for actually playing games. There's a light in the room at the other end, but the area with the games is basically just lit by the lava lamp and a small sconce with a 25 watt bulb. I'll just have to take a better picture when there's daylight.

What kind of jack are you using to go to your speaker system? You can get adapters to turn pretty much everything into RCA. No need for anything to go through the PVM. What's your speaker setup like? Are you using a dedicated audio receiver/amplifier?

PC speakers that use a headphone jack. The reason I have stuff running through the PVM is because it acts as a female-to-female connector for the various RCA cables, since I'm short on those. But the main issue is easily switching between different consoles for sound. I need something like an amp that can take in various RCA sound feeds and switch between them

You know those modular wire rack shelving units they use in kitchens?
I got me one of them with wheels on it.
Got 5 shelves, space for a 20" PVM, and is 100% self-contained. You plug in one power cord and the entire tower is ready to go.

I'm able to fit Sega/CD/32X, NES top loader, SNES, N64, Neo Geo CD, PC Engine with CD, Dreamcast, PS1, and Sega Saturn on the bottom 3 shelves.
4th shelf is the 20" PVM, my Scart switch, and two mini shelves to the side that are only on the two side posts.
The PVM is on a large 1/4" thick poly cutting board that was cut with a band saw to snugly fit into the indent on the shelf rack.
All the power cords are zip-tied to the rear frame with heavy-duty surge protectors that can be used to switch everything off when not in use.

Mini shelf fits my gamecube with GB Player, and a Dell Optiplex i7 SFF PC for emulation/recording.
Top shelf is for the sound bar, and a dust cover that I can unroll over the whole thing for long-term storage in the closet.

As long as you're willing to live/work in a smaller town space isn't an issue. When my wife worked over there she had a decent sized two-room apartment with dining area and kitchen. They weren't full-sized appliances but they'd be more than adequate for a family of three, easy. The cramped spaces were the bathroom and toilet, but that's pretty typical of homes there in general
