Blazing Star on Neo Geo. An excellent R-Type style shooter, with a large ship selection, interesting game mechanics, and some of the best animated sprites on the system.

Sorry, playing MH3U with the Mrs and missed your post.

As another anon stated, Supercade is good, I personally use ShmupMAME for the lessened input lag, but any MAME variant will work just fine.

>>500864
Gotta agree with this anon here, Ketsui is a belter. Very technical scoring system involving point blanking, as in, the closer you are to a destroyed target, the higher the point modifier is.

It's arguably my favourite shooter, along with Mushihimesama Futari Black Label, but the scoring system can be a bit of a love/hate thing if you're not used to bullet hell games or Cave shooters in general.

My first I ever played was D-Force, I can still hear that fucking goddamn loop. But it was still fun. I have been playing Axelay and Gradius lately. Good shit. Also, I guess The Rocketeer world be in this category, that game sucked balls, took me forever to find out how to beat the first races. Anyone ever played the Rocketeer?

For MD/Genesis, MUSHA

>> No.501508

Personally I really like Eliminate Down for the Genesis, it is fairly fast paced while not being a bullet hell. I personally like horizontal over vertical though. Two of my childhood favorites for the Genesis would be Wings of Wor and as mentioned Bio-Hazard Battle. I like Shmup's that aren't standard space ships, and these ones have odd levels and enemies so it is worth playing through them for something different.

I also like Gradius, probably because it is the easiest one I have been playing in the series. Also you could play Truxton if you feel like being punished as well. It is fun, but god damn.

I heard of Recca a few times a few months ago, decided to play it just recent and it is damn fun. Salamander for the NES as well is fun.

Hey guys, I'm trying to remember the name of a Genesis/Mega Drive horizontal shooter I used to play.

I don't remember much, but one thing was that the levels were divided in planets... you would start in a certain planet, then beat the final boss and advance to the next one. I remember never being able to get past Neptune.

If I remember correctly, irem got it right with r-type 3, and it runs really well on the SNES, so it winds up being a lot better than the port of the original.

If you're talking about the original arcade game, there is none, it's SNES only.

I played the first R-Type on the Turbografx16 via Virtual console on Wii and it still remain some flickering. The port is really well done though dispite the amount of flickering on screen.

>> No.503350

As far as Raiden goes, go playstation. The PSX version is both Raiden 1 and 2, and plays perfectly. Both the SNES and Genesis versions, though fun, have some flaws. The SNES game is in the wrong resolution and is choppy, and the Genesis version has a stupid feature where you get set back to a checkpoint when you die.

>> No.503357

What? so if you die like just before the boss fight, you had to star right in the beggining? that just fuckings sucks man.

Better gotta try the third one. Do you play it on your SNES or you use an emulator?

Does the game features an option screen so i can re-map all the buttons? i'd like to play it with a gamecube controller.
