If you are referring to the mechanics of the game (deciding who is the killer and time flowing regardless of your actions), it's the only such game out there. There are games with "natural" flow of time and there are games with random element thrown into investigation, even if it's main plot rather than side quest, but Blade Runner is the only one to combine those two.
Think about it this way: it was possible to deliver a game like that 21 years ago, while what? 3? 4 years ago we had the whole "Heavy Rain" bullshit hype, about a game as linear as only feasibly possible and boasting how innovative it is with its time flow. Still worse than a clunker from late 90s done mostly as an experiment.

Why not just making a crawling marker, rather than making it year-related? We are already allowing a lot of stuff from 00-02 this way, because often the games in question are either continuation of a franchise (still using old engine) or have more in common with /v/ than /vr/ (not to mention being often forgotten due to reasons and only existing as retro stuff, despite not being retro by /vr/ definition).

I've played through 1 and 2 countless times. saying that 2 is "peak thief" is absurd.

half of the levels are boring generic mechanist crap. the only normal mansion mission is ruined by linearity and an obnoxious in-game tutorial. the architecture in the city missions is uninspired compared to the one in the first games.

on top of it, the mechanists are 100% cringe. it's painfully obvious how their voiceovers tried to mimick le quirky monty python humour, and their art deco themed designs don't fit into the thief universe.

thief 1 was peak thief and you know it.

But it is the peak of the series, you fucking contrarian. LGS improved the first game in every single way, while also carefully listening to their players in doing so. So the levels were better, the missions were better, combat was kicked out rather than having those random dungeon crawling moments for no particular reason and it had tighter plot.
Since 2 is an improvement over 1 in every way, what's here to argue? Unless, of course, you want to try to convince us here that non-LGS made Thief games were better?

Zombies are boring and don't belong to a game about being a master fucking thief. They simply don't fit the game and have nothing to do with anything. They are there, because LGS was working on different game initially. That's literally it. Defending them in the game is like saying the two-pointer system of Settlers 1 is superior, because hey, it was in the original game! Everything in Thief 1 and 2 was about taking a fantasy setting, meshing it with fucking urban fiction and removing as much "magic" out of everything as possible. It wasn't until 3 where weird stuff started going on regular basis, but guess what? Different studio made that one.
It's like you never fucking heard about the concept of low power fantasy. Which is not the same as low fantasy and yet somehow people tend to confuse those two non-stop. Thief is the text-book example of low power fantasy going. And it's part of what makes it so unique as a setting.

constantine lives in another plane, that can only be reached through a clearly magical portal. by enacting certain ritual involving a magical artifact, he can bring chaos into the world and destroy all human civilisation.

is this really "low fantasy" to you? does the presence of undead really strike you as too "high" fantasy compared to this? and like I said, the destruction of the sealed section is well integrated into the plot of the game. I don't know what you'd expect to find there if not the undead who destroyed it.

judging by your description, "low power fantasy" is just fantasy that's a step higher than low fantasy, but not high enough to be high fantasy. going by this definition, it still exists on the same low-high spectrum.

I don't really care about your semantics. the important thing is that we have a universe where cities get besieged by anthropomorphised forces of nature, where powerful elemental crystals materialise spontaneously (this actually becomes exaggerated in thief 2), and where literal alternate planes are accessed through magical portals. having a few zombies doesn't really stand out.

Why is Blade Runner not available on Steam/GOG?
>Speaking in 2015 regarding a possible re-release of the game via Steam or GOG.com, Louis Castle explained the source code and assets were lost when Westwood moved its studio from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, thus making a re-release or a HD-remaster impossible. Even if the code was found, to restore almost a terabyte of assets, whether for new pre-rendered backdrops or full real-time 3D, would cost tens of millions of dollars, making a re-release as unlikely as a sequel.[31] The Blade Runner Partnership and Electronic Arts currently own the rights to the game.[17]

Also, they can sell copyrights when there is a buyer. No buyer? So no point giving it away for free.
My personal favourite is Wasteland. They had rights for original. Didn't use them in any fucking way. But they would probably sit their asses on copyrights unless Fargo would finally get enough dough to show up in their offices and make a bid to buy the rights for Wasteland. Ok, well now I've played through the first Legend of Kyrandia. I admit I was pretty hyped at first but quickly grew tired mazes, finding randomly generated gems with correct colours, inventory management and obscure puzzles. One of the worse adventure games I have played. Wimpy Joe Kucan as the main VA also got on my nerves. I shamelessly used the official guide that came with the GOG release and I don't feel like I missed anything.
