I found one of those at a CompUSA waaaay back in the day, but it's got the old PC-style 15 pin D-sub joystick connector on the end of the cable. Not really sure why somebody was selling a N64 emulation gamepad back in the Windows 98 era. Like, I think 1964 existed at that point, but just BARELY.

Yeah, replacement parts for the original controller are still the best. Ideally you'd want to replace the gears, the bowl, and the stick.

It's really hard for me to take that guy's opinions seriously. I was watching his review of this controller and when he gets to testing Mischief Makers he actually says, "This game's controls are weird ... it doesn't use the analog stick like you would expect in a 2D platformer." Just... what the fuck? Who would expect or want to use an analog stick in a 2D platformer? That's what d-pads are fucking made for.

Analog sticks work fine with 2d platformers because the inputs are so simple that an analog stick covers everything they need, unlike d-pads with 3d platformers.

How do you even get this approved for sale? Also seems like a lame game to get a release here.

>>5017180
Probably just trying to make money off of the mold already existing. Remember that even in the late 90s there was still the belief that you should play with a controller on PC if you're able to, of course keyboard+mouse hadn't really caught on like it had by the time of stuff like Q3 and Starcraft.

>> No.5020941

>>5020937
Laughable nonsense. You can literally move the joystick 1mm into the joystick's range and achieve a movement input. That's way tighter than a dpad where inputs are usually at minimum 1cm apart.

>> No.5020942

I'm only surprised that people shilled this pad. Never trust a 3rd party controller, especially from a no-name, especially from kickstarter, and especially for 20USD in the 2010s.

The issue isn't with how it looks, the issue is with how it's built. The stick is the problem, and there are fixes, but they all involve doing things that most casual players wouldn't want to do in order to fix it.

Why take the controller apart and replace individual parts when I can get a new controller that's also built like a newer controller would be?

>> No.5020975

>>5020970
The N64 stick is fine, though. It's one of the most functional and precise joysticks to exist on a console. Its only flaw is that it wears down faster than other controllers.

>> No.5020994

>>5020978
It won't wear down that much faster if you use some silicone grease, though. You'll easily get 1000 hours of gameplay out of it before it needs to be replaced, and most people won't come anywhere near that.

The lack of stick lubrication is a flaw, but a third party controller isn't going to fix that, because, as third party controllers will, it will have an inferior stick anyway.

Yeah this would be great advice if it were still 1999 and we could get brand new N64 controllers without spending +$100.

I'd rather have one of these brawler controllers than a worn down N64 controller, if I'm being honest. I'd rather a Hori mini or a repaired one over either of the first two options, but a Brawler is definitely third.

My issue with the whole thing is that they acted like it was a passion project but didn't actually take the time to work with anyone who plays N64 games extensively and understands how the original joystick works.
