Why do some people claim that Pokemon isn't a JRPG series?

The same reason why some people don't consider DragonBall to be anime. They associate the 'JRPG' as an innate negative, both the style of game and the people who play it, so to separate themselves from both while still enjoying Pokemon (usually out of nostalgia), they'll try and claim that Pokemon is not a JRPG, even though it is in the most basic of senses.

These types are extra obnoxious because they're all about dumping on the genre otherwise, and will gladly pigeonhole any game outside of their nostalgia baby. This would not be a bad thing, but they have a burning need to try and remove and ostracize people who talk about that genre, just like how Toonami fans have a habit of sperging out over anime that's not Bebop or Ghibli.
