Post full backgrounds/stages from fighting games. I'll start with SFII: The World Warrior.

What I'm really looking for is full-size clean rips of the backgrounds to SSFII HD REMIX (Xbox 360/PS3). Anybody got them?

Well, in the case of these SFII rips, I used MAME, set the dipswitch to "test" mode, restarted the ROM (F3) whilst holding down Player 1 LP + Player 2 LP+MP, which gets you to the "scroll test" mode. That lets you look at all three laters of the backrounds. Then I took a bunch of screenshots and pieced them all together in Photoshop.

The arcade SFII games are kind of weird: the native pixel resolution is 384x224 (a widescreen ratio of 12:7), but this looks stretched if you display it with native sqare pixels. It looks normal when squashed to 4:3.

Yeah, I fired up MAME to check and then scaled the picture over here - looks roughly correct if you scale it 4x horizontally and 5x vertically. Correct integer scaling would require 7x horizontal and 9x vertical, so 2688x2016. (This is why we need 4k desktop monitors.)

It's a shame so much old sprite work was done with non-square pixels.

How limited? Tell me what CPU you ahve, I'll tell you if it would run. They are not very demanding and run flawlessly on adequate hardware.

The only problem is the weird button layout. But when you finally figure it out, it's all well.

Arcade MK were so, so superior to console ports in every way imaginable.

As long as we're talking about background details, how about this one.

In Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter (I think), Blanka and Beast are shown huddled around a fire in the background, but if you pick Charlie, Blanka won't be in the background. Capcom knew how the SF Live Action movie fucked with the story and decided to put it as a joke in the game. Subtle. Very fucking subtle. And hilarious.

Capcom vs. SNK on the Dreamcast (maybe more systems) was amazing with background detail.
For example, in this stage the harder you or your opponent hit the floor, parts of the house around you would fall apart, and if managed to get the house to it's bare bones and ended the match with a super, the whole damn thing fell apart!
