They did, it's Kirosen. French outfit that does music for advertising and cartoons. They did the music for Totally Spies. I don't hear anything that similarly rocks out in their portfolio, but it sounds like they are extremely good at using electronic sampled music. And I mean the good oldschool kind, not the dubstep bullshit.

Honestly, the music is what I worry about the least. Dotemu has a reputation for making horribly buggy titles. They can still do something like ask Koshiro to do them a version of the SOR theme that is used in the ending or so.

And I dig the art style they are using - It's too early to say that I like it, it certainly feels pretty different, but I think I can grow to like it. Geezer Axel looks absolutely fucking great. Also, consider how kinky the game will look, with the lead animator being a guy who has already done a cartoon bestiality in a TV show.

Most important is that Streets of Rage's city is a mix of old japan (Shinobi) and cops & criminals who have access to cyborg stuff. Kinda like Robocop.

I don't think the soundtrack should be metal. But in the end this isn't going to be like the old ones with a different developer.

I find a bit sad that a lot of people is celebrating all this retro releases of SEGA as a sort of a renaissance.
First of all, the majority are being outsourced to western studios. Sometimes you get something interesting like Sonic Mania, but nevertheless, it's kind of sad having people outside of the original teams reviving a japanese company old hits.

And lastly, Sega was a company always thinking ahead of the rest, experimenting with new technologies, optimistic about the future, and with a image of coolness that not even Nintendo could have. Now, it looks like and old man watching old photographs and trying to remember the "goold old days". All this insistence on their past, and the thousands of Mega Drive retro packs being released are not a good sign.
I loved when Sega brought back their old IPS but tried new things with those, like Sonic Adventure, Phanstasy Star Online, Rent a Hero and Ecco the Dolphin for Dreamcast, Outrun 2006, etc. Sometimes they got it wrong (Shinobi or Altered Beast for PS2) but at least they tried something new and went for fresh concepts.

Gonna have to disagree with you there, bud. Koshiro's work on SoR is nearly universally acclaimed for its culmination of so many different electronic styles in a single score, not to mention how far he had to push Sega's hardware to create convincing tracks on an FM Synth chip. Not just from a video game soundtrack standpoint, but from a purely musical standpoint the SoR tracks are an absolute hit in almost every way and their reputation shows.

The tracks you posted might have decent influence in Japan, but the SoR tracks have influence everywhere. Love Koshiro but the tracks you posted didn't impress me much - difference in taste, I guess.

The problem with Nintendo today is more of a creative bankrupt, at least in software. Just churning out sequels of Paper Mario, Pokemon, Yoshi, Pikmin, Fire Emblem, Smash Bros, WarioWare, or remakes of old games for 3DS. Sega is looking at the past with nostalgia, but Nintendo is just repeating it constantly with the same sequels since the end of Wii (except for a few exceptions).

Despite being a fan of pixel art and 2D, I believe SOR4 should have been in 3D like Yakuza and made in Japan by Sega and Ancient. I don't trust much current Sega, but it would have been interesting to see.

No way they are the same now that in the early to mid 2000s, when they were creating a lot of new games like Mario & Luigi RPG, Rythm Tengoku, the Bit Generations, Brain Training, Nintendogs, WarioWare, Chibi-Robo, New Super Mario Bros, Mario & Donkey, Kong, the Tingle RPGs, etc. Or doing something entirely new with their old IPs like Metroid Prime or Kirby Paintbrush.
