Let's have a retro Megaten thread (Shin Megami Tensei and such).

I'm playing SMT1 with a Snes9x emulator. I'm using Gamefaqs and I'm almost at a bit where the guide says I might have some trouble. It says

>Messian Baptism

>First things first, if you're using the English translation patch and using an SNES emulator, you'll need to make a save state here. Load up a clean, *unpatched*, ROM and load that save state. Now return to the room where you talked to Law Hero and Haniel, and you'll see an old man. He'll ask you if you want to be baptised into the Messian Faith. Since the text is either gibberish or Japanese, you'll want to chose the top choice (which is "yes"). After the baptism, create another save state and load the English patched ROM back up.

It talks about the english translation, but I'm playing the game in the original Japanese. Is this something I still need to be worried about? I'm not sure if I even understand what they're talking about.

Thanks and feel free to talk about Megaten.

It's okay I know Japanese, I just want to know if this glitch applies to the JP version. I've been playing this every day for almost a month, I'd hate to lose my progress to some shitty glitch.

Are you using the English translation patch and a SNES emulator,?

>> No.5004356

>>5004227
No, you don't need to worry about it. That glitch only applies to the utterly broken, unfathomably shitty Aeon Genesis translation. There's a patch from Orden that fixes it in the fan-translation, but you won't need to worry about it.

Great, thanks for telling me.

You got it dude. I would love to play the PC Engine CD-ROM version if I could read Japanese, but I ended up playing through the iOS version in English before it was delisted.

How was it?

It's basically the GBA version with a higher framerate and the PSX soundtrack. The translation is a lot more accurate than the fan translation, but it plays quite well. It was clearly a rush-job, but better than never getting an official translation. I mean I hate playing games on my phone, but I love Megaten, so it balanced out. They never updated the app to 64-bit though, so you can't play it on anything past iOS 10 which is a bummer.

That's cool. I played the PS1 version once and the polygons really helped the 3D feel in the dungeons. I guess the iOS version didn't do that though.

A friendly reminder that SMT 2 is actually secretly the best megaten games even among the newer ones.
You're in for a treat, OP.

Also chaos is hands down the best path in the first two games.

II is pretty bad coming off of I; I couldn't bring myself to finish it. MT II on the other hand...

Christ this is some godawful taste.
MT 2 is legit pretty great though

I was loving II, but it just suddenly becomes not fun out of nowhere. I was enjoying it as much as SMT, but then it turned into an unplayable slog.

Weird, did you maybe try playing them too close to each other?
I get burn out when I do that with turn based RPGs sometimes

You don't get based demon bros though, plus chaos is actually pretty moral in SMT 2 since you go so far as to release the Japanese gods to watch over and protect people.

That's very possible, I don't think I played it right off of SMT, but I was playing back to back to back Megaten at that point. I guess it's one of those things where I got a fair number of hours in, but then took too long a break due to frustration, and now I don't remember what the hell I was doing. I did absolutely love all the new demons in II though.

Here's a fun tip if you want to just make the game piss easy combat wise.
Fusing with humans gets rid of the level limit

whaat, I didn't know you could do that. Well shit. I'll probably have to give it another go sometime. I got rid of the hacked Wii I was playing everything on, but I did backup all my SRAM. Thanks for the advice anon.

Also another tip for the last few bosses, though this one requires grinding
If you get the spell that raises a party member as a zombie on the chick it's completely immune to insta kills making the last like 4 bosses piss easy

OP here, yeah I don't want to burn out as well. When I finish SMT1, I'll try playing Majin Tensei (Fire Emblem type game) as a change of pace and then maybe Megami Tensei 1.

Also, I'm at a part in the game where the guide says I need to be level 65. I was level 58 at the time and went to the mansion to grind and level up. Luckily I stumbled across a boss fight which paid off around 40,000 exp points and levelled up my mc to 60. I still need to get to level 65 though and it will probably be an extremely long process.

Are there any other bosses hidden around? Or any tips for levelling up fast?
