At least the banter in SA1 was decent and slightly witty. I feel bad for the poor souls at SEGA USA that were forced to put this in the game by their Japanese counterparts:

There's two things that make me see SA2 as being inferior to SA1: Camera being retarded 70% of the time and poor audio mixing leading to you hearing BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE whenever you play the Tails/Eggman levels.

So how in the FUCK do people mistake Shadow for Sonic? He's got completely different color fur on his whole body, it's like people mistaking Luigi for Mario.

I am in the same camp as OP. I wonder why sonic adventure has the two camps. I tried playing sonic adventure 2 but it's design is so repelling I can't play through it. The levels look and feel cheap and rushed.

Sonic adventures 1 levels are on point. Not too long, all completely different and good looking. Once you figure out the few bugs (don't roll in loops), it's very playable. The different characters are a nice and welcome change in pace. The story is serviceable and a good change from classic 2d sonic games which I honestly do not like at all. Story and gameplay of 2d sonic games is just boring because of too much moving on rails and too much physics which give too little control. It's like the difference between f-zero gx and wipeout. Wipeout is just a truly boring shit game. The only good 2d sonic game I ever played is sonic spinball...

What makes the sonic adventure 2 camp think that sonic adventure 2 is better? Where does it get fun?

Better chao breeding. Edgy counterparts seemed cool at the time.
The levels and scoring system also seemed tighter even if they ended up becoming a grindfest in the end

>What makes the sonic adventure 2 camp think that sonic adventure 2 is better? Where does it get fun?
It takes SA1, removes the shit that wasn't fun (hub world crap, Big) or that was pointless variants on Sonic's stages (Tails, Amy), then improves greatly on the three playstyles it keeps. The new missions have more interesting challenges, and the ranking system means every mission has an additional requirement of having to play well. I'm no Chaofag, but it's impossible to argue they didn't substantially improve the Chao raising system.

I want to get all the emblems but I hate the stupid chao shit what do?

>> No.4995861

>>4995857
Just make sure to enter the chao garden after each level, whether you completed the mission or not, and give all the drives/animals to your Chao. It'll get the stats it needs to win you the final emblems before you get all the non-Chao ones.
If you have a Chao that got all the emblems in the other game (not sure if you're playing S1 or 2), just transfer it over.

Sonic Adventure 2 starting in San Francisco was a bad sign of things to come. Sonic games have always had levels which mixed surreal landscapes with some realism, but never were actual Earth places.
At least in Sonic Adventure, we had Station Square which was supposedly based on New York, but still had a very distinctive design.

Sonic Advenutre 2 also had an egyptian stage, which I also think is a mistake, and one of the worst levels in Sonic & Knuckles too. Plain Earth cultures don't fit in a a Sonic game.

Awful either way. This is when Sonic started to suck, really.
Especially that awful pose, why is his hand going through his legs? That'd just end up tripping him if he's running. Who thought this looked cool?

am i the only person who loved the hub worlds in SA? they are so damn cozy. they are pretty small too so its not like you ever got lost or anything.
i was so disappointed to play SA2 and see no hub worlds. it made it harder to feel invested in the game

>Plain Earth cultures don't fit in a a Sonic game.
The greco-roman architecture in Sonic 1 and 2 is god-tier.
And egyptian shit fits everywhere, look at SMB3. Pyramids are just amazing.

>> No.4996912

>>4996863
They were nice in theory, but the execution was so damn awkward with all these random scripted events and closed doors herding you towards whatever stage the game had decided you were going to do next. Everything in the game being centralized to three small areas hurt the story too.

>> No.4996967

SA2's radical map that goes into space (how was that not on the map thread wtf) > SA1's hubby

>> No.4997514

>>4996898
But Sonic 1 & 2 used greco-roman motives mixed with surrealism, pinball, and early 3D CGI motives. It followed the artstyle of the games. What they didn't do was just make a stage based on Greece, like Sonic Unleashed. And as Egypt goes, I agree that pyramids are amazing, but again, they can be used adapted to the Sonic style and world, not just "Sonic visits Egypt!" thing.

I loved the hub world in Sonic Adventure 1 too. In 1998, watching Sonic running across a 3D city with cars and skycrapers was just amazing. Also, the small size makes it easy to navigate and creates a cozy feeling.

>> No.4997557

>>4996863
I think the hub worlds and the secondary characters were necessary. That way the speed of sonic stages stood out much more.

In that regard I'll have to agree with you. Sonic 3, while looking fantastic, lost that surreal visual design of Sonic 1 and 2.
