Well if you believe in God it makes sense, being that there's a difference between human morality and God's morality. One of the chief ideas in the Bible is that somebody can be the nicest and most upright guy that ever lived, but unless he submits himself to Jesus' salvation he'll still be mired in sin because no human being can be good enough to earn Heaven for themselves since the standard is perfection.
