Do you prefer Old Konami (shmups, bmups, Castlevania, Contra, Goemon, Frogger) or nu-Konami (MGS, Silent Hill, Beatmania/DDR, Yu-Gi-Oh, Suikoden, Tokimeki), /vr/?

I don't like Konami at all. All their games are mediocre at best. The best game they ever made is Contra hc, and even that pales in comparison to arcade games from that time. It's a blast to play in two player mode though.

>> No.4979374

Don't give a fuck about any of the series you listed in nu-Konami so old it is. It's a bit of an unfair description though because many of the best games in series you put in old Konami are fairly recent.
>>4979356
Contra series doesn't pale in comparison to arcade games at all though, the only thing that can compete with it is Metal Slug and those games have a very different gameplay style so not playing both is doing yourself a disservice. Preferring HC is pleb-tier.

Old Konami: Had Contra, Goemon, Classicvania, Snatcher, Policenauts, Twinbee, Salamander, Gradius, early Suikoden, the best licensed games that rivaled Capcom with TMNT, the Simpsons, Tiny Toons. Simply hearing their classic jingle meant that you were in for a damn good game.
Nu-Konami: Has Yu-Gi-Oh!, ZoE, Igavania and the irredeemable trashvanias and Metal Gear Solid

Gradius, Parodius and maybe Twinbee. Sunset Riders and Mystic Warriors are pretty good run 'n' guns. Their most fondly remembered beat 'em ups aren't good, avoid them especially if you're new to the genre.

>> No.4982226

>>4982185
I'd say Metamorphic Force and Violent Storm are pretty good beat 'em ups, even if not at the level of Capcom's best. Batman Retuns for Snes is good too, although tough as hell.

TMNT and Simpsons beat 'em ups are not perfect, but more like fun party games if you play them multiplayer. Better if you ar a fan of the licenses.

>> No.4982249

>>4982185
Thanks for the suggestions. I am interested in the beat em ups too if anyone has some recommendations. Considering how much you hear about them they must be decent. I am trying to play as many games as possible instead of separating myself into a particular camp.

>> No.4982259

>>4982249
As other anons said the best ones are Crime Fighters 2, Metamorphic Force, Violent Storm and Batman Returns. Get the japanese versions, they are better balanced. It's better to start off with Capcom arcade beat 'em ups if you want to get into the genre, though. Punisher is a great one for solo play. D&D games, Battle Circuit and Alien vs Predator are great as "party games". You do have to either play with friends, try to limit your credits or both to get more into these games though.

It really doesn't in any way, besides letting you share your very limited experience with the game usually unique to your area and culture. Why are you jumping to that conclusion?
Do you think kids didn't hang out at arcades all day long and knew all games inside out?
You seriously lack arcade culture, you only know it through MAME. Also nice projection with the credit feed, since you can credit feed all the games you want on MAME. Back in the day, you had to be very cautious because playing wasn't free.

I actually didn't even refer to you directly so good job getting upset. Just brought it up as an example to demonstrate that whether you played as a kid or not doesn't mean shit, it's all about how you play. But instead of challenging the guy on that, you just brought this up because this is the only thing you've got. And that's blatantly untrue, I even credit fed persoanlly the few times I bothered going, seeing most games through only takes a couple to a few coins depending on the game in question

It doesn't mean they're good at them or know anything about them either which is my point to begin with. More than that I assumed you're not one of those kids that played Vendetta/other bmups alot and got good at it because otherwise you'd just talk about the games instead of bringing this "b-but I played it as a kid" shit and hiding behind the good players at the arcade instead of speaking for yourself.
