Did anyone here originally play DKC on the GBC instead of the SNES? Also, post any other interesting or obscure ports.

Yes, and in fact, it was my introduction to DKC. Didn't get super far to the game, it was pretty tough and I couldn't go further then the level with the mine and light switches.

I often forget this thing existed. I played Donkey Kong Land which was very different to Country (like Super Mario Land to Suepr Mario Bros).
Donkey Kong Land 2 nd 3 on the other side were more alike to their "Country" counterparts.

Dynasty wars (tenchi wo kurau) got a very late PC Engine port

Turrican got a strange PAL only version on the nes. The final boss was traced from Aldynes, a rare supergrafx game

Tiger road on pc engine is very loosely based on the arcade version. Not developed by capcom

1943 kai on pc engine includes a new set of levels that are superior to the main game

Popful mail on pc engine includes extra areas not in the Sega cd version

Bosconian on x68000 has a new Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack. Interesting to not there is also a doujin shooter inspired by bosconian

I had it. I liked the op cartwheel jump where you could cartwheel straight off the edge of a platform and you'd keep going straight in the air, and you could jump after it. I thought it was weird that you'd do that on slopes, too though, instead of staying on the ground while cartwheeling. Diddy OP.
I hated how you turn into animal buddies instead of riding them, and that getting hit once makes you lose them with no chance of getting them back.

The Spectrum Version is also quite an achievement too and looked very good in magazines (if you have a hard-on for the Spectrums monochrome graphics mode), but as soon as the game starts and the sprites moved it was apparent, that they could indeed do bigger sprites than the C64 (but the Speccy Version was only available for 128k Spectrums of course double the RAM gives better results), but the Spectrum also lacked in terms of power.

I don't know. Maybe the devs that ported the game to all the 8- and 16-bit Machines (UK based Creative Materials, Ltd) had some insights into what was planned ahead by Capcom.

Also the SNES Port came out the same year the home computer ports were in the works (despite the in-game text the Speccy Port was finally released in '93 when the SNES-version was already out), maybe the borrowed something they saw there?

The C64 version of Prince of Persia is an interesting case. There were rumors and even screenshot of a C64 version from early to mid 90's. But only some ugly looking screenshots surfaced.

But very late in 2011 an unofficial but almost perfect conversion came out. And the developer even documented his progress (he did the port only with a reverse engined Apple II version of the game).

But I doubt that the game could've released in that state in the 90's. C64 games on cartridge always were more expensive, but a game on cartridge with a size of half a MB would've been not cheap at all (AFAIK only Terminator 2 for the C64 had such a big cartridge). And I doubt that this version would run that well from disk (let alone tape), I guess you would have to load for every single screen. There's a reason he ported it to cartridge only. But if the game would've been released in the 90's on cartridge only, I guess it wouldn't have sold very well.
