I had Blue for a long time before that with my blue GB Pocket. It was nice that all the accessories I owned still worked with the GBC. I was fond of buying cheap third party crap and also the really oddball accessories, some of which were in the AVGN videos. I owned the FM radio attachment, which is a piece of crap, about the same as those scan FM radios you find in dollar stores. I got this cartridge that had a modem in it that could dial up and check/send emails. I only ever used the free trial that came with it but I was the kind of spergy kid that just had to have that thing and actually use it. I had the save manager cart that allowed you to back up multiple saves, great since I liked to fuck around a lot and kept saves with and without cheats. I had the brain boy for gold/silver which was basically a save editor in cartridge form, I had a lot of fun editing move sets and stuff like that. Also last but not least the first accessory I got was the gameshark, I went through 3 of those fuckers. All that fun stuff is gone but my original GBC is still in storage, I'm gonna grab it when I get back to the US.

My question is why did the SNES have to be so awkward by not releasing a black model of their console? All the most popular consoles from console generation 2 onwards had a black or at least dark grey variant, including portable consoles. Most of the runner-up consoles like the cdi, 3do, jaguar, cdtv etc came in black also.

I know it's a very minor thing but it triggers my autism because I'd like all my consoles to match.

I have an orange funtastic N64. Orange is my color. It looks great next to my Red Anniversary Wii. I am still looking for the Blue PSX. They are somewhat more collectible, but not much. I like to save boxes, so there may be some value in it.

It's not as common, and you aren't getting atomic purple, but monochrome was always the standard for consoles in the first place. Stuff like the N64 was an exception, not the rule, and black and grey was always standard, Famicom aside.

It's nice when you have the option to get something in a different color but let's be honest, how many people would buy the same thing over and over again just because it's got a different color? How much more did the N64 and the Gameboy (Color) sell because of different colors? And how much does it add up for not-/vr/ peripherals? There's a producer side opposed to consumers and if their marketing and finished products don't achieve the effect of increasing profit then the story simply ends there. I'm not sure about the gameboy color but the N64 didn't sell that much more with these options and the original Gameboy already sold a ton when the PIL line got released. The PS4 is already the biggest selling console of this generation, the 3DS was already a success with the N3DS and those plates and the Vita is still succesful in the east so what marginal profits did the additional choices add?
