If the prequel involves going back in time to erase Ecco the Dolphin game from ever existing, Terminator-style, then you can count me in

There's hardly any games where you get to play as a non-anthromorphic being.

Ecco is such a bizarre, confusing game. I've never looked into its development but I assume it was made that way on purpose.

>> No.4972937

>>4972925
It's basically a puzzle adventure game, so you are meant to figure shit out. Overall really It's not that hard when you get down to it, but nothing else plays like Ecco so there's always a learning curve to get over when you start.

Yeah, I can’t imagine many younger kids getting past the first level in the days before gamefaqs.

Didn’t the lead designer eventually admit that he added a lot of bullshit to make the game overly difficult?

Man I love Ecco. Everyone complains about how Ecco controls but I got really good at it playing the games over and over, and it's very satisfying to be able to swim and jump with precision.

Maybe not young kids, but I don't think it was designed for young kids. There is Ecco jr for that though. I was 18 or so when it came out and it was sometimes quite frustrating but overall a good challenge.

>>4973005
There are 3 bits I can see as issues. This jump is the biggest, if you don't know the shortcut (which back in the day we didn't) it takes a lot of practice.

The Asterite battle is straightforward but can be a real pain, though it's mitigated by the invulerability glyph you can keep going back to.

Then Welcome to the Machine isn't vthat hard it's just a case of memorizing what's going to happen which I consider lame game design.

Somebody has that Ecco 2 beta/prototype/whatever where you fight a cyborg dolphin?
I know I downloaded it but I can't find it in the sea of unspecified files with random names I have in my download folder

>> No.4973887

Ecco the Dolphin sure is mysterious and fascinating, but god damn is it the opposite of dopamine for me, shit makes me want to stack blocks and cut myself.
