Searched the catalog and no battlestations, so here we go, let's see your retro battlestations!

This is the one I planned for a long time. It's made from modified walmart cube shelves, cut up metal closet organizer bar and "fish filter" foam. I wanted something that looked how I imagined a rack mount would look if it were made to set in a lobby somewhere and designed to look like furniture.

The CRT, the only hard to replace part, is a fucking piece of glass. The gun, phosphor, mask, etc are protected under high vacuum and are near inert to time based wear from just sitting. Maybe the neck pins might get a bit corroded, big deal clean them. Only thread is an idiot breaking the neck.

There will be viable CRTs at least a century from now, long after you are dust. The technology exists to rebuild CRTs as well, and this was done up until like the 90s to save money when tube TVs were expensive by CRT rebuild shops.

I have all 3 models. This setup is just the small one I have in my living room. I decided to go with the model 3 here because it placates my autism. I know this is dumb as hell, but I decided to put the last revision of each of these consoles with this setup. Basically the later released "budget" models.

Genesis 3 isn't bad. It won't play a few special carts or 32x without mods. Other than kolibri, there's nothing I want to play on 32x, but I can play on my other setups. The video output is great, rgb from the factory, jailbar free composite, clear bright colors. The only downside other than losing compatibility with add ons is that it has mono sound. The sound is very good, it's never mentioned on those "what model genesis has good sound" sites, but model 3 is no slouch in the sound department. I've got this one modded with a jumper wire to output mono on both speakers, but I do plan to do the proper stereo mod on it where you make another amp circuit and take audio from the IC.

This is what I've got right now, I hooked up a CRT TV to my computer with an HDMI to composite cable for about $20. outputs at 480i with . I wanna grab a VGA converter and a higher quality CRT for a better picture, but for now what I have is good.

I like the fuzzy picture, it reminds me of the crappy, poorly calibrated TV's almost everybody had in the 90's. something like OP's setup is nice, but no normal person would have had as high quality of a setup as that..

Im in the process of moving my "station" to the storage/ "Man-closet". We are renovating room by room, and it is time to re-set. This is an old photo. New photo forthcoming later in this cancerous thread. I still haven't unboxed the systems...they are still in protective plastic tubs. I am very very particular when moving game systems. Wires are wiped down of dust, and rolled up nice. We only moved it upstairs, but this is how I roll. It could be days until I am done setting up 4 systems. The multiple tube tvs are in place where I think I want them, but It all may change, and probably will. Lots of room to tinker with electronics, room for a recliner, and room for a table to work on firearms or computers.

By far the easiest way to hook a crt up to a computer is to use a vga crt but you can use consumer component sdtvs by using special drivers to push the vga frequency down to 15khz then use a standalone transcoder to change the rgb colorspace to y/pb/pr (component). Any other method is less than ideal.

Theres generally 2 ways to connect a consumer grade TV to a modern computer.

Easiest way is to use an HDMI to composite converter. Any idiot can do it and it requires nothing but a $20 investment for the converter. The picture is locked at 480i and there is a slight delay, but it's very serviceable for the cost and will look more real than anything youd get emulating on the flatscteen.

Most popular method are the dedicated VGA converter boxes that retail around $80. jrok is a popular one. They output the input signal at 1:1 so custom GPU drivers like crt_emudriver are mandatory to get the right signal. This option takes the most effort and money and often warrants its own PC due to the drivers, but can still technically be done on your home pc and will give a much better picture than the first option.

I hear rumours of scart allowing for plug and play alongside crt_emudriver, but im not a eruo and cant test this.

I just finished making the stand from hacked together shit. I literally have less than $175 in the entire setup not counting the consoles. That's not anything to be proud of or have an ego trip about. Honestly man, material posessions are nothing to be proud of. I like looking at battlestations and can appreciate seeing what others do for their setups. Instead of trolling, why not post your setup? It's probably a hell of a lot better than this tiny assed thing I posted. This isn't anything impressive, just a small setup that cost less than a standard modern computer monitor. It's fake wood paneling made to make this room a separate room from the rest of the floor, it was an addition. The motherboards are there cause they work still and it's easier to store them on a wall than in boxes and it's also safer for them.

13” ‘89 Zenith Space Command with model 1 Genesis and NES hooked up together through an RF splitter. Both play on the same channel, just turn either one on, so no cable swapping bullshit. Both consoles produce pictures that look fantastically nostalgic at their native resolutions on an era accurate tv.

It's a Sony PVM-20M4U. 19 inches of viewable screen. Probably gonna be expensive on the market nowadays. Luckily, I nabbed this from a video editing company near where I work a while back, before the PVM craze took off. If you don't care about RGB, find yourself a 20"-27" Trinitron or similar with S-video. It'll still look great, and I find that size range to be the optimal mix of convenience and quality. I had some really nice 32 and 36 inch CRTs about a decade ago, but they were just too fucking big and heavy, and really were more ideal for playing post 5th gen stuff via component.

They still are. Shame of it is that I am looking at buying a local CRT that has been sitting for months.....a 27" console with svideo. I think it is a zenith. The wood is nice, and it has a nice storage area under it. It would look much better in my livingroom vs the 20" silver bordered screen.

Also, there is a 32" RCA with svideo at the same place. It is the standard black border curved screen. I had to get rid of an old set before I would allow myself to even think about getting another.

>>4954289
>By far the easiest way to hook a crt up to a computer is to use a vga crt but you can use consumer component sdtvs by using special drivers to push the vga frequency down to 15khz then use a standalone transcoder to change the rgb colorspace to y/pb/pr (component). Any other method is less than ideal.

Back in the day I used a gforce 2 with a component video dongle that fit in an svideo plug in the card. I still have the dongle. Finding a good card for this is tricky.

I am pretty serious on native connection, and I know it can be done with certain GPUs. Some can be forced to run at 15khz. I have enough pc stuff laying around including a quad core i5 mini pc, a few low profile gpus and hard drives for days. I don't want it for gaming, but more for a 240p computer to hold all my retro game files & the occasional cd/dvd burning....which I do every decade or so.

I am super duper impressed with this console TV. I have had lots of CRTs over the years, but none had the quality of sound that this has. Easily the best 2 speaker stereo sound I have ever heard. The bass is outstanding, and the music is crisp and clear.

You were spoiled as a child, and I am envious a slight bit. We only has some uhf/vhf bullshit, but that was in the late 70s/early 80s. By the time that TV died, I was already living on my own with my own.

Funnier yet, they replaced it with a 36" RCA. Dad died a few years back, but mom still plays Mario Kart 64 daily. I know she misses her "wario" as player 2. I miss him too. He was a great guy. Goddamn, now I am all flustered.

I MAY get a little table off to the side...but as time has gone on, the Xbox has really become the least used system. However, if you grew up with Xbox modding it out may be the greatest thing you ever do. When the Xbox came out I was in my mid 20s, and didn't have time for it. I never got one until they were $20 at yard sales...I got 2 of them in short order, modded the hell out of them and gave one to my "little" brother.

You get yourself a Wii, and it will pretty much eliminate the need for the GC & SNES systems. Modded wii do a great job of emulating Snes & Nes. They also allow for playing of GC & Wii games from backup files.

The thing that got me into it was that it allowed me to create a good backup of my GC games (All 3 of them). Most of my GC games over the years got disc rot and/or kids destroyed.

I've been thinking a lot about wanting FRONT-LOADING versions of the N64 and SNES to work in my space-constrained setup.

I made a tool for that out of a paperclip. You can open the drive, and hook the "belt" out. I then put it in a big cup of water, and microwave it for 2-3 minutes (this gets oil off of it). I take a strip ripped from a rag, and fish it around the pulleys and clean them as best I can. Getting the belt back in requires a hook end on the paper clip for pushing. Pic related is exactly how I bent it with a pair of needlenose pliers.

I hadn't originally intended to do an "all-Sony setup", but the pieces were easy to find. I just got a Sony TA-F6B in the mail today, it's kind of been my grail amplifier. Took it apart to do a quick cleaning and played a bit, the punch is amazing, but I definitely wanna get an equalizer to tweak the output, and I'm probably gonna get some tower speakers while I'm at it, so I can wake the neighbors with the Konami noise.

The reason is that I bought the sms and it came with the master everdrive. I basically got the console that had been rgb modded (model 1 is native, model 2 you have to mod) and the cartridge for $65 shipped. I wanted a sms as my wife grew up with one and had nostalgia for it. I'd rather play master system games on sms rather than on the genesis. There's nothing wrong with playing sms on a genesis but if you have the everdrive and a sms, why not play on the actual system.

The dividers are actually from Ikea too but I've heard they're only available in the UK, I've got some spare ones to be added to the bottom four cubes as and when I add more consoles, I agree that when there's just a lone console in a cube it wastes too much space.

Almost no one bothered to buy those. TVs with s-video weren't too common.

But still period accurate. Your initial claim is invalid.

Could be done, but very rarely was.

I had friends, some poor, others rich enough to have a second house, on a lake, with go-karts and dirtbikes, and not a single one of them ever connected a console with more than composite video before the sixth generation. The relative gains were just too minimal but mostly magazines weren't writing about it.

Not him, but I fail to see how that makes it any less period accurate, unless you consider how you personally played it back in the day to be a reasonable metric for accuracy. By that virtue, playing an NES via RGB would be just as accurate if you somehow managed to grow up with a Sharp C1.

There ya go.

By the way, saying that gimmick is unreleased is pretty fucking retarded, but it earned your (You). Ever heard of a japanese cart and a nes to famicom adapter?

really want to set up a small wheeled "retro cart" that I can wheel around but I'm having trouble with the damn SNES and N64.

too big to side side-to-side with anything. top-loaders so you can't stack.

Have a perfect surplus medical cart for it. But need to find a layout that works. Perfectly fits a 14" PVML5 on top.

Might even be able to construct 19" rackmount components inside....

I see we have two different schools of thought here, you rely on what was most common for the time period, I rely on what was the highest grade video offered from the time period.
At the end of the day, whatever you find most enjoyable is the route to take, but I only run composite on my NES and Genesis.

You should RGB mod all your consoles. The vertical stripes exclusive to Genesis versions of games were just an artistic choice :^)

What about everyone in europe using RGB for SNES, Genesis, PS1...

>> No.4999118

Everything about third and fourth generations was designed for North America with everywhere else as an afterthought. Nintendo didn't even bother to sell NES in Europe and let Mattel handle it, and PAL Sonic runs slow.

Homes with cats smell like homes with cats because they secrete stuff threw their paws and rub it on everything.
