It's a fucking shame, too. The most exciting thing about gaming in the late 90s and early 2000s wasn't 3-D, it was all the advancements made in AI and physics and TECHNOLOGY. Now games are literally going backwards in all those respects because devs are too lazy to bother.

It's not a comeback, it's how you play Puyo Puyo properly.

You think that entire combo happened by chance because the player was too stupid to match anything and filled the screen up? Of course not.

Watch any Puyo Puyo match or speedrun, the good players know all the patterns how to set the field up so these full-screen combos happen.

I agree it's impressive but it's not a "comeback". It's a 100% intentional display of skill and planning.

Even in the recent entries to the "Immersive Sim" type genre I don't recall being able to disarm an opponent by aiming at their limbs. I dunno, anon, I think what you're missing is that games that let you shoot limbs and whatnot are almost always slow, which isn't always fun. Dead Space makes up for it with the atmosphere and because it felt unique enough to be shooting something's knees and then it crawls over to you anyway.

I think the last FPS that just went technical for the sake of it with no other reason to play it AND was still fun was Crysis.

I guess, just don't expect anything grand. It was made by two guys when remakes.org started another remakes competition. It's pretty faithful to the original game with its level design and story elements, but you're better off playing the C64 versions if you haven't before.

interesting. I never understood why they went with the 1 bit controls. That is so such weird a decission that I have to call it unprofessional. Only logical explanation would be, that they need 1bit movement, because of the motion engine.

Btw, you can also see that this engine is also the first assassins creed prototype. See how the feet adapt to the slopes.

You are not the type people like to converse with, eh?
I played through rayman on saturn and I know in the music stages he does slide, and on saturn the controls are still 1 bit even thought they should been able to do it right there. As a game dev I gotta say, rayman would been much better with acceleration and deceleration.
Since you seem to be pretty stupid and you can't see the obvious let a pro explain it to you:
Raymans controls are boolean, he either moves or he doesn't. There is no acceleration or deceleration. The game design problem which is clearly visible in the snes clip and you notice it also when playing rayman on saturn:
parts of the game are too slow and some parts can be too fast.
Because if there is no acceleration and deceleration, the game designer has to find the ONE speed, which fits all situations, and that doesn't exist. Long stretches will be too slow (clearly visible in the snes clip). If you would set the static speed to fast platform jumping sections become hell. There are a few games which do 1 bit controls right, like vollgar, contra3, super ghost n ghouls and demons crest. But the level design needs to be really tight for something like that.
You fucking noob

I've never "rehearsed" a webm in my life. Every webm I've ever posted is just me recording a game I feel like playing, and then just picking out a couple of neat moments. That's how you make a webm because you end up with natural gameplay that looks good. I don't even think the gameplay shown in these webms is fantastic by any means, in fact it's basic af. The fact that some paranoid schizophrenic thinks what's been posted requires "rehearsal" is not me saying that I'm a great player -- it's me saying that the guy is a fucking mongoloid.

Okay. You are obviously telling the truth in relation to these two levels. I was in the wrong. I am not sorry I didn't take your word on it, and there was a reason I thought your stuff was rehearsed, but the latter can wait for a different occasion.

Sorry for the late reply. I decided to take a 24 hour pause in order to formulate a coherent point and try to address your videos from a somewhat different standpoint, but it seems that as for right now this isn't really possible.

You see, there are two videos of you playing sock's levels (one purely his, one co-authored by him). In order to cleanly distinguish between you two, I need to factor out sock first, this necessitates research on sock's level-designing style. Sock is a professional level-designer creating levels in post-HL paradigm. In order to cleanly distinguish between sock's personal level-designing style and the paradigm he is working in, it is desirable to first factor out HL's influence which necessitates research on, say, Brett Johnson and Dario Casali. That's where I am currently at.

I am still not okay with either your playing style, or whatever you are trying to pull with your videos and your comments supporting them, but, again, there will be another occasion for discussing that. On this occasion you, however, have a clean victory. Congratulations.

How about you just leave me alone you fucking weirdo? I literally have no idea what you're talking about or who you think I am. I don't know who "Sock" is, and I don't have this autism where I stalk map designers and fetishise the imagined metaphysics behind their creations. I'm pretty sure those are your essays I've come across before. I've read all of one of them and, I won't lie, it provided a good chuckle, but after that it's always been a tldr. I don't know what your problem is but goddamn, I don't have any "ulterior motive" by posting fucking video game webms on a vietnamese basket weaving symposium. I'm not trying to show off, I don't think my gameplay is amazing, hell I don't even think single player gameplay is impressive in general, certainly not the casual excerpts I've posted itt. I'm just sharing simple gameplay pieces of dead video games with like 10 other nerds at a time that also happen to enjoy these threads. I like sharing gameplay, so what? Go away.

It is entirely my own business, which freely and publicly accessible content I take my time look at (regardless of whether it's your posts or gameplay videos or not), what impressions I form and what conclusions I ultimately arrive at while looking at said publicly available content, and whatever I fancy to publish on anonymous forums with minimal moderation as long as that whatever is formally relevant to the topic designated in the thread's OP post. I don't need either your permission or your blessing in order to, when I am looking at something, try to to determine what the hell I am looking at, and to try to describe that "what the hell" to the best of my current extremely meager abilities.

And, just to be clear, I really, really dislike posts like these >>4965704 since they seem to me to imply, that if you don't trickjump around every single videogame level like an ape with the utter disregard to the intended skillsets those maps were created for to begin with (as intended by actions minimally necessary for their completion), apparently, your opinion on said videogame levels doesn't matter. I don't like the possibility of GITGUD being considered the form of "fuck off" here, especially not when said alleged "GUD" consists of looking like a hyperactive moron, overreliance on leveldesigner's goodwill and ending up with 1/10 secrets in the end of the video. Moreover, I very much dislike some overactive deathmatcher devaluing the time and effort I employ into actually researching, through trial and error, what skillset, approximately, each individual map was created in mind with, and generally striving for things to make at least some semblance of space.

And to an even lesser extent I dislike someone who goes "gosh! I am a VICTIM! this guy is a STALKER! help! help!" - which is completely inadequate to the current situation - when discovering his previously available content a center of unwanted attention - and, possibly, gasp!, some unfavorable opinions.

And to make it clear, all the current situation boils down to, is that I made myself look like an utter moron, by posting incorrect assumptions about your videos (which have since been refuted with concrete direct evidence). And what made me look a moron isn't that I POSTED those assumptions and hypotheses, it's that I didn't use the magic words "probably", "most likely" and "seems to me" where they would be really goddamn appropriate, and the absence of which made my posts look like accusations and blackmouthing. It is THIS, that I consider being my fuck up specifically, and it is THIS that I derive as a lesson to me from this situation. That's all this is really about and you need to get over it. Meanwhile you're mad at me for bunnyhopping in Quake (which I didn't even post in the webms, I was just playing in my own time and those videos were never actually meant to be seen by anyone) and not bothering to look for secrets, are you serious? It's sad enough that you're sperging out over how someone likes to play a game, but you're also being a total hypocrite on top of it.

For the sake of the thread I'm going to ignore the next inevitable mountain of bullshit you post, just as I do your essays. Well my computer never froze by just playing a WebM. But some encoders are just shit. Problematic WebMs that I saw here were either non-seekable (WebM exits with an error message when seeking when clicking into the timeline) or show a garbled pixelated mess when trying to seek. But freezing never happened

The WebM's that I encoded never had such problems. But I use the defacto standard FFmpeg (with the libvpx and libvorbis encoders) via terminal without any intermediate tool or GUI for FFmpeg.

Even the hacked WebM's that I altered via a HexEditor (to trick the boards duration limit of either 5 Minutes or 2 Minutes in /vr/) never had any playback problems beside an (sometimes intentional) funky timeline display (when hacking the container duration to just 1 ms the timeline indicator jumps all over the place during the first few seconds).

i. e. this WebM is around 2:30 sec long.

Not him but I love Umihara Kawase and Umihara Kawase Shun (Shun is my favorite platformer and one of my favorite games). As much as I want to get hyped for this it is almost certain that Fresh will be more like Sayonara than the retro games, and Sayonara was a huge pile of shit, the physics are so bad it's hard to believe it isn't some kind of fangame.

I'm not sure what to think about this.

It might not be too bad.
As long as it offers plenty of freedom and the same solid mechanics it can be fun.

Now if they added a level builder, that would be absolutely amazing.
