Did anyone here own one?

>> No.494985

>>494960
No. Nobody owned a Pippin either.

>> No.494986

I don't think anyone here grew up in Japan in the 90s.

>> No.495000

>>494986
Yeah but there are collectors on here, right.

>> No.495003

Nobody here has an MSX or a PC-98 or a FM-Towns Marty, either.

>> No.495007 [DELETED]

>>495000

Only if you mean a bunch of fags who only collect NES and SNES

>> No.495017

This thing only sold 100k units in Japan. How many games even exist for this?

Apparently the PC FX had the best FMV quality of the 5th generation, but by this point the fad had already passed.

Can we please try to keep the /v/ shit to a minimum?

There's been a few threads in the last couple of weeks with people talking about the Japanese computer scene. I'm not sure that many people own the systems, but there's definitely interest in the games and emulators, and more translations are happening all the time.

>> No.495042

>>495003
I don't think many of us live in Japan, and the shipping costs for the PC FX, MSX and PC-98 would be off the charts. There might be a few MSX owners in countries like the Netherlands though, where it was very popular.(They actually had a fan translation scene for the MSX in the 90s)

>> No.495049

Translations are supposedly tricky with these though, aren't they? Has there been any PC-98 game that got fan translated?

>sold 100k units
I didn't even think it was that much.

There weren't even many games released for the thing. It was based on old tech, and NEC was pretty much busted already when they put it out in late 1994. It wasn't close to the power of the PS1 or even Saturn.

I remember seeing lots of ads for dating/waifu sims back in the day. I think it got like less than 50 games in Japan. Shamefur dispray, indeed.

Yep. Bonk 1-3, plus Air Zonk. Doesn't get much better. It's like the TG-16 was built for Bonk, what with the turbo on the controllers and all.

>>495086
That's what it looks like. Wiki says it did FMV well for the time, so lots of animu waifu sims. Pretty pathetic although yeah, like >>495063, I do remember seeing ads in EGM back in the day for imports.

Although the LT is a really nice piece of hardware, it was another thing they fucked up on. It couldn't be used with the Super CD-ROM2 because it didn't fit, even though it was released JUST after the Super CD-ROM2 got released, even with the same color scheme. Eventually NEC released an adapter for it, which has now become extremely rare.

Well sorta. It's not really portable since you have to keep it plug-in at all times. It was probably suited for when somebody is hogging the TV or when you're in bed

it was marketed as a gaming system but really it was basically a web device that was made before most people know what the web was. Maybe they thought people would be scared of it or something if they marketed as a web device, but I think it would actually have faired better if they HAD marketed it as a web device and like made it out to be a portal to the revolutionary new "information super highway" (people ate that shit up back then). Might have even helped to popularize the internet.

Der Langrisser FX, best version of the game, has awesome voice acting and cutscenes.
There are a few other SRPGs but they are all generic and boring.
Zenki FX is fantastic
I really like Blue Breaker, although it is really repetitive.
Zeroigar if you don't mind cutscenes in your shmups

Those FMV fighting games were really stupid, but Battle Heats at least looked really cool (same guy that did Fist of the North Star)

Me too. PC-FX was like $100 from eBay, boxed with one game (Dragon Knight IV). It has some decent SRPGs (DK, Langrisser...), that FMV fighter is pretty friggin' awesome, too (t's like Supreme Warrior on 3DO) and the only shooter on system is outright awesome. Only problem is that everything is moonspeak and only one or two games got fantranslation. Not bad console but too much FMV crap killed it.
