Can we take a moment to appreciate shotguns in our classic FPS games?

Aside from that, what shotgun from classic FPS shooters do you think was the best of them all and why? (Please put picture of the shotgun as well.)

Of course it has to be the super shotgun in doom but in some situations it is a bit overpowered. The starting area in sunlust map 24 (pic related) is very balanced though.

If this actually qualifies as a shotgun then yes, it's the most satisfying weapon I've ever used in a game.

The Slugthrower in Soldier of Fortune also deserves a mention.

Blood's sawed-off shotgun is god-tier. It's very well-animated and has a super meaty sound effect which, combined with the awesome gibs, makes it extremely satisfying to use. Plus unlike the super shotgun you can choose whether to fire both barrels or just one.

On the other hand, Duke Nukem's is really weak. The animation is just meh and the sound is terrible.

it's not a common opinon but I really like Quake's shotguns -- both of them. it's mainly due to the fast weapon switching I guess, as you can switch to them whenever you like. it just makes for really fluid combat without break, and the combination of this with the few hitscan enemies and advanced movement are the reasons for me why Quake feels so damn good. a lot of the time the ssg in quake for me is sort of the exclamation mark at the end of a gunfight, where it's a habit to switch to it after launching a grenade or shooting nails to confirm the kill. meanwhile the normal shotgun is a good sniper for those more distant enemies. and when you get that quad damage power up and blast enemies into piss from close range they feel damn good. plus I really like the thumping sound of the SSG and how it reloads so quickly.

Whatever's the lever action shotgun model used as the cowboy shotgun on Doom: Golden Souls 2.
Great sprites, cool cycling and reloading animations, plus great sound effects as the cherry on top.

Yes. Shitty shareware game with... Really eerie game design.

There's no music at all. Just kind of off-kilter ambient sound effects, like metal banging or wind blowing.

Also sometimes you see posters of women with their big tits out. I think it was supposed to be a kid's game.
