Not /vr/, but I almost got burned on buying a Resident Evil DS on ebay. I made the dumb mistake of not looking very closely at the picture, because it was a U.S. seller and the picture was taken so far away. No one in the U.S. would be selling fake games, right?! Lesson learned. Total bootleg copy of Resident Evil Deadly Silence. Seller claimed he had " no idea " the game was fake. I feel stupid about not looking into a little more. Lesson learned.

It's ebay, I am getting my money back. The issue is this shit back and forth has gone on over a week and just takes forever. It's more of a pain in the ass than anything. During that time, I bought a real copy. The guy is purposely being slow.

>> No.4934185

This isn't exactly /vr/ either and I don't have any pictures until I can get home, but I ended up buying a fake Pokemon Sapphire from a local store who won't offer cash (nor debit) refunds. As you can guess, like most fakes the game is playable, but every time you make a save, turn it off, then back on, it gets erased. I still have it, and it looks like someone just threw a fake board into a Sapphire cart. I bought a real one from another store after testing it.

Let this be a lesson to test your GB/C/A and DS games before buying something just because it's the only one in stock. I wouldn't be surprised if the guy who sold this one to the store made more and had others buy em.

Except that it is, so you can file claims on everything this guy sells and you will win them all. I mean, what would I get out of it by fucking the ebay seller? Ebay has already sent me a ship and I am putting it in the mail today. The only thing is, the seller seemed kind of scummy. He was trying to get me to return it, through his site and not ebay. That was a huge red flag for me, and I basically told him I would not do that because I didn't feel comfortable. I also wanted ebay to document all the message between us.

I agree though, if you are a seller it's your responsibility to make sure you have a legit copy. On his page it said, for sure, it was a real copy of the game.

I figued this would be a good place to post this.

So yesterday I made something. It's not for sale but for me to personally play. This is a copy of Mother for Famicom that I paid a whopping $10 for. I have a buddy with an eeprom flasher, so I did what any self respecting person who can't read das moon did. I put the 25th Anniversary Faithful hack onto some eeproms and put it onto the Mother PCB and into the Mother case.

I now have an English translated Mother (with some improvements) On the original cartridge. I'm not a fucking animal and can solder properly, so the original roms were removed without any damage to the board or any cutting of traces. If I wanted to, I could easily desolder the eeproms and re-install the original chips. The only change from it's stock state would be new solder on the IC pins.

If I was doing this again, I would have positioned the kynar wire under the IC legs before soldering it to the board, as it was a major pain in the ass to route it under the legs. There was only one wire I had to be outside the legs with. It just couldn't fit while soldered in, but I would have been able to with the chip not soldered in. Anyway, I think it turned out decent.

I wish there were screen caps, this sounds fun. I bought an EB on ebay a while back because there was some 15% off sale going on sitewide for me and also had $30 ebay bucks to spend. I popped it open as soon as it arrived and it was legit.

EB is overpriced, but it was kind of a grail for me as I played it as a kid. I ended up paying $123 for it after the discount and the ebay bucks. Kind of neat as it had some level 99 saves on it in the place is where you are transformed into a robot.

It's funny because some sellers show pics of the board, yet it would be nothing to put a pic of a real board on a repro's listing. People are fools for not owning a gamebit.

No, Mother is common as hell, costs $10. I wanted this in original shell and on the original board. As I said in the post, I can literally desolder the EEPROMS and solder in the original chips and it's 100% original minus having new solder.

As if the increasing costs of retro collecting aren't bad enough, the flood of modern bootlegs, especially for Nintendo platforms, it's seriously discouraged me from ever collecting retro again like I did years ago. I just emulate now, the only authentic bits I really collect are the original pads and the appropriate USB converters. Having to pay these fucking prices on top of going over nearly every purchase I make with a fine tooth comb to make sure i'm not being ripped off is not worth the trouble.

some of the carts for genesis games are still decently priced. I think the Nintendo fags are just so thirsty that they artificially increase the value of these retro games to the point where it is ridiculous. i bought a repro bare knuckle 3 in english with jp mega drive box art, genesis red spin, and real genesis cart (and board).

only thing repro is the chip. The board is acclaim. Probably something cheap before modded, like QB club.

But it runs great, I question the night club in the 1st or second level. The colors are questionable but Im not sure. I think the club is suppose to be pink and yellow lights, but mine is red and green. Sounds are spot on, translation is good. I can play as Ash... all for 30 bucks. Regularly MD or GEN its nearly $100 or above. So I'll take it.

For shits and giggles I wanted to see what kind of prices they wanted for their games; when Panic Restaurant could be had for around 60 dollars BIN on ebay, they were selling them for upwards of 100 dollars. When I was trying to sell Bubble Bobble 2, which went for around 200 dollars at the time, I got lowball offers anywhere from 100 to 150 dollars. This makes me sad.
There's one game store near me, that's a real cool store. Has a retro area, modern area, everything from NES to modern day consoles, everything well-stocked.

Every game is, like you would think, from 30€, and rarer or just popular games go for 50€+. They also buy used games, and resell them for reasonable prices (usually about 10 to 15€ below new-price) for a store. They even do a 3-for-2 deal on games from the previous generation (since two years ago Xbox 360, Wii and Wii U, and PS3, before that it was PS2, Xbox, and GameCube, etc) when the newer one is out for a while.
When you buy an used console or game and it turns out to be a fake, repro, or not-working, they'll offer you a refund in credit or cash, or a small refund/credit if you wish to keep it. They also sell non-functionals or broken things for a small price (max €15 on hardware with defects, like one headset came with factory-broken mics).

They're a good store, nice people. Sure, a bit pricey, but god fucking damn it if it isn't a cozy store. Stores like the one anon posted are fucking it up for everybody and the reason people no longer go to game stores.
Because my country is known for our swamp jewing, a lot of parents are like "old game, people will give like 5 bucks for it" so retro games go for cheap on facebook or our-version-of-ebay. There's a retro community that eagles it, but most of the time it's easy-ish to get games for cheap if you don't buy from a young-ish dude (as in, under 35).
