Making a double-barreled shotgun that fires both barrels isn't even remotely implausible, people have modified existing shotguns to do that, and I've seen at least one factory shotgun where the front trigger could be pulled to fire one barrel at a time, and the rear trigger to fire both.

The muzzleflash coming from the center of the gatling guns in Wolf3D is probably just a quick and dirty effect that was seen as "good enough", because people had low resolution CRT displays and the style of the game is pretty cartoony, it'll work.
In Doom, the spidermind's gun would have it light up in the actual muzzles, with the big flash booming out the 12 o' clock position.

I am simply trying to make a post in the D64D2 thread to let Mechadon know that I cannot flip the switch that leads to the 1st blue key, in level 1!

It's pretty frustrating not being able to enjoy that new release, I can't even ve sure if my comment would lead to the problem veing solved for me.

Well, one thing I have accomplished is to 'vaccinate' the wad: I wanted it to coexist besides Doom II, so what I did was to rename the map lumps so there would be no conflicts with the pointers. I also edited the MAPINFO lump to point to the 'new' nextlevel entries. Then I removed the 'nightmare' versions of the enimies by commenting out what they replace. This allows Doom II MAP31 to function correctly, since CommanderKeen behavior is now preserved.

What is worst about all this is: even though I am willing to ipload my editied wad for any interested anon, I myself cannot enjoy the fruits of my toil.

Is it possible to customize a sector light mode in GZDoom?
"Software" emulation (GL_Lightmode 8) STILL has some bugs (like turning certain textures pitch black in conjunction with fake contrast emulation in sectors with light level 32 and below)
Doom (GL_Lightmode 2) and Dark mode (GL_Lightmode 3) do not pronounce light level difference enough to my tastes.

Basically what I want is Doom sector light mode (GL_Lightmode 2), but with sector light contrast being between current (GL_Lightmode 2) and software (GL_Lightmode 8).

Nothing bad is going to happen. dpjudas swooped in to clarify things that should've been said in the OP:

>1) The list was queried from the display driver. A concept utterly obsolete and in practice a hard-coded list in the display driver. Legacy resolutions like 1024x768, 800x600, which all were incorrect as the hardware doesn't actually support any of those resolutions. Modern display technology only supports one resolution as they aren't CRT displays.
>2) Asking the typical user about the full screen resolution is bad UI as the answer in 99.95% of all cases is.. the actual monitor resolution. Why do you think modern newer games just ask you if it should be fullscreen + a scale factor. Apparently not only are we idiots based on the feedback, the entire gaming industry seems to be so!
>3) The code was very old, included broken obsolete concepts like the LB modes that no longer made sense (the general scaling system in GZDoom handles this via other settings for a while now). It also conflicted with #2 as it required the user to make a pointless obscure decision for the majority of users.
>4) The newer scaling code actually supports selecting specific resolutions. This made the old video selection code redundant. The list of options currently is pretty small, but it is trivialto add more to that list.
>5) OpenGL doesn't support exclusive full screen mode changes. What we had was always a hack. Due to #3 it meant any user that selected full screen would get their desktop icons rearranged. That really sucked!
Half the feedback currently seems to come from people that have no idea what scaling features GZDoom actually has, nor puts much consideration into why we are trying to adjust the menu in the first place.
It seems like we could use some way to specify specific windowed geometry sizes, as apparently some used that feature in the old video list. That's more or less the only useful conclusions I've been able to draw from this so far.

Just finished Brutal Wolfenstein 3D 3rd episode on Bring ' Em On
It was pretty good,I had fun.
I didn't like how some of the weapons became useless.
The flamethrower is a pretty good weapon.
The enemies were challenging and difficult but some of them were really annoying.
Like the guard with the white outfit.He's fast and whenever he screams "grenade" the grenade explodes instantly.Not like yours that takes a while.Well at least it can damage his companions.
Also there is no Fake Hitler as an enemy.I mean yeah it's silly but it's iconic.It was replaced by flamethrower soldiers.

Btw the music is great,the remixes are sweet.
The final fight with Adolf was tedious and I had to exploit the AI to finish him off quickly.
The levels are....classic Wolf3D levels.They are the same.At least in the demo of 5.0 version the creator tried to make them look different,so I have faith.

First, a warning: It has never been "finished." There's no "good" version, just versions with higher or lower badness levels. In recent versions, at least, it's far from the worst of its kind (open source knockoffs of popular games made solely for the purpose of getting them into Linux distros with highly specific license rules) but it's not some amazing work of art or a thrilling experience you can't get somewhere else.
Builds from a few years ago (pre-0.10, IIRC) were VERY halfassed. They just kind of threw together whatever assets they could get their hands on. A lot of the enemies were low quality renders of 3D models a third grader could have made, and the music was about the same. Most of the maps were placeholders with one room and a switch. The rest had no consistent style, poor balance (way too much or way too little ammo for the enemy placements) and pointless use of graphical features from vanilla-incompatible source ports. I think the project was fond of PrBoom at one point.
Most of those issues have been resolved. Some guy redrew a bunch of the enemy sprites, a bunch of new music has been introduced (there's a couple hip-hop-ish tracks and lots of stuff that almost sounds like Mega Man) and most of the maps have been cleaned up and reordered into a more coherent progression. However, most of them still have huge, sprawling layouts and obnoxiously detailed geometry, so you need to use a limit-removing source port.

I would say personally that version 0.6 has the most identity to it. Freedoom is at it's best as a Doom knockoff, rather than as an indie game based on it's gameplay. It's level design is generally expansive, but interesting. I enjoy a lot of it's levels for the environmental storytelling, and the music is pretty...unique, to say in the least. There's a certain amateur appeal that Freedoom has for me that I can't get enough of. A lot of the levels are the same, so the most "complete" version is 0.8 to 0.10 or whatever version it's at now. Yeah, but not in the good way like Aeons of Death. Aeons of Death, for all it's retarded design decisions, doesn't have the issue of legendary weapons that come from super boss enemies being useless against other boss enemies. I genuinely can't understand this shit. Enraged legendary enemies are invincible to their own tier of weapons and everything below it besides normal weapons. To me, that just means the legendary and above weapons are totally fucking useless. They might kill some enemies faster, but when you get a legendary enemy at any time in every level that can either one shot you, regardless of armor, or can very quickly kill you, why bother using weapons that would just end up gimping you?

Legendary weapons are absolutely pivotal for dealing with tough non-legendary variations like pretty much all archviles, spiderdemons and cyberdemons for example, especially the green archvile that heals himself. Clusterfuck has tough non-leg variations of even imps, zombies and demons. For example the "phase spectre" who kicked my ass, and as such leg weapons are absolutely useful considering you'll be using them against enemies far more common than legendaries. Legendary weapons working against the bosses (legendary enemies) would make them a joke while getting you OP weapons from their drops, including the leg bfg which does work against legendaries. Legendary weapons are that strong. So to avoid making the whole game a joke, you have to deal with legendaries with tactics and skill instead of killing them in 3 seconds with something dropped by most legendary monsters. That's why mines are so useful. AEOD actually suffers from this where things like the black hole gun turns all spiderdemon and cyberdemon variations into a joke that die in a few hits.

Also, the railguns are the best weapon against legendaries besides the legendary bfg itself, you can snipe with them and they do a shitton of damage.

This is wrong. Dodging the attacks of several revenants or arch viles takes tactics and skill. Kiting hordes of demons or pain elementals takes tactics and skill. Abusing pathfinding so that you don't get murdered by a one shot homing blast from a super speed chainsaw zombie that fires bouncing rippers everywhere is not skill and tactics. It's not fun when the only way I am able to properly kill an enemy is to stand just under the top of a two-way stair section and dump super shotgun rounds into his face because his saws can't properly hit me at that angle. Not only that, but I dumped like all of my mines into a super powered legendary soldier (I forget which, I think a shotgunner? It was moving too quickly for me to notice.) and it didn't even kill it.

When a game is too easy because you get end game weapons, the solution is not to make the entire game boil down to killing absurdly broken enemies with piss-worth weaponry. The solution is to not make the weapons so broken, or make the enemies more threatening. Give the Cyberdemons or Spider Masterminds phases where they can either ignore such attacks, or reflect them, or both, like that one Baron of Hell replacement from Realm667.

There are better ways to go about difficulty besides turning everything into a complete mess of one shots and balls to the wall speed. See Hideous Destructor. THAT requires tactics and skill. If you want fucktons of guns and enemy times without broken difficulty, play Doomzone instead.

Absolutely not, you definitely need skill to dodge legendary pinkies' rush, you definetely need skill to react to legendary zombies' mines, you definitely need skill to deal with legendary imp's swirling projectiles, you definitely need skill to hit the fast, small legendary lost soul, you definitely need skill to deal with the legendary hell knight's ground wave, etc. All of them have ways to deal with them. The low rate of legendaries means that it's intended for you to not find them often and for you to have some good gear for when you do.

But superbosses in RPGs are typically either optional, or give you plenty of save points where you can prepare for them. You're also comparing apples to pumpkins. In DRPG+RLA, when you get super unlucky and end up with the random event where every enemy is a special enemy that saps your energy, credits, and ammo, while moving quickly and regenerating health, you can still deal with them effectively, because their attacks do not typically fucking murder you in one shot. Starting very slightly slow, then going 1 tic per frame, like it's going slightly slow back, then faster forward.

I think there's even some frames a little bit like this for the original D64 shotgat.

Currently playing Half-Life on Medium.Is it me or this game is really hard? I had more trouble with this game than Quake and Blood and those are pretty tough.
Some of the enemies like the marines are so difficult to take down.
The Hivehand is problably the worst weapon of the game.

The problem with Doom 3's shotgun is that it has a comically fucking wide spread pattern.
If you're at makeout distance, it does respectable damage, but the spread is so ludicrously fucking high that if you're even 10 feet away, most of your pellets will likely miss.

The shotgun in the first Doom had more realistic spread than that, you could count on a decent hit across a street.

To be frank, it's because Valve is fucking retarded. When Valve updated the TF2 version of the source engine, they also updated the HL2 engine to the TF2 engine. Makes sense, for multiplayer mods, or performance tweaks, but in doing so they actually gave HL2 longer load times and broke some mods too. Steampipe is notorious for being introduced to make bugfixes easier, and then not actually adding such bugfixes. The same shit happened with HL2. Weapon balancing and AI got fucked, as well as load times and performance, so if you want to play the game as it was intended, or as close to as intended as possible, play either the Xbox version, or the 1.0 retail version, assuming you can find either.
