if you watch them eat food you rarely, almost never see them take a bite, they'll pick up the fork, act like they're gonna eat, then say something

then the frame cuts to the other character's quippy one liner

then it cuts to the first character, the same single bite of lasagna in limbo as it travels back and forth meaninglessly (and with good reason--- it's covered in pesticide)

they've been poking and prodding at the same thai noodles for almost 10 years

A while ago I got stuck babysitting my nephew who insisted on watching the latest Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon when it was on. The only episode I actually sat through had them get addicted to an MMO that was literally just the same detailed, static shot of a knight fighting a dragon with Atari sound effects every time they showed it. And they showed it a lot, multiple computer screens at the same time, up close for prolonged periods.

I remember some cartoon where the entire town got addicted to a computer game that was said to have a really cool ending. Eventually someone beat the game and it turned out the ending was a screen that said "to be continued in the sequel", and the rest of the town immediately quit playing and called the game a scam, because the only reason you play video games is to watch endings. Hollywood is scared shitless of the games industry which is raking in billions years with products that dollar for hour are the most cost effective entertainment to exist*.

So they colluded amongst themselves a policy to portray videogames as sounding like trash to discourage their viewership from jumping ship to them.

*Except books but we all know normies don't read them anymore except for "blockbuster" memes like Harry Potter and Eat Pray Love.

Malcolm in the MIddle had a few tidbits of gaming here and there, some right and some wrong. One episode had Dewey playing a Dreamcast inside a bus full of rappers , another had him trading toys for a gameboy at a church and the same episode had Stevie beg Reese to get him "Double Dragon 4: The Sacred Stone" from the church. In an early episode, Stevie and Malcolm both play Sonic R on the Saturn and Malcolm hates it because it's a baby game. Stevie wins and even says "I win the pot of gold".
