Hi Gideon

The magic system wasn't designed to be used in english, making it rather nonsensical.

It's excellent. In my top 3 SNES RPGs for sure.

Extremely flat and boring. The gimmick battle system only lasts for a short time because not enough spells. That's what i remember of it, it's been a while.

My thoughts too. Its only redeeming points are the nice visuals and great OST.

It's a decent game but very weak outside of high production values, one of the weakest titles from Kawazu's portfolio.

Having four separate stories that are also connected is a very good ideas, and the fact that you can switch between characters when you feel like it is also very nice, but none of the stories are interesting outside of maybe Surlent's and the game is overall very plain.
Another problem is the inconsistent characterization, Sion's alright for a typical male lead but his party is just there and outside of having the obvious love interest there's not a lot of interesting dynamics, despite getting pretty important characters in his group, his rivalry story also ends up abruptly and is generally pretty unsatisfying, Surlent is supposed to be the most intelligent and knowledgeable MC but he is by far the most stupid somehow, getting tricked by both Dune and his own villain repeatedly despite being the brain of the main party, his own cast and story is probably the best of the bunch though and the banter is good, Lisa's echowarrior story is horribly boring and has one of the worst love stories ever told, with probably the worst party in the game in terms of characters though fighting Sodom is fucking amazing so I can kinda forgive her, Dune is locked behind NG+ and is also generally uninteresting all around outside of seeing what the game hid from you until then.

The graphics are mindblowing for a SNES game, there's simply no contest in terms of RPGs outside of maybe SD3, the music is also very nice with a clever use of character themes.

The gameplay has a truly neat idea in the Kotodama system, and it's a shame nobody really elaborated upon it, but outside of that, it's as basic as it gets and offer very little challenge.

It's a good game outside of some boring writing and has an interesting story structure, but the gameplay is overall uninteresting outside of the Kotodama, amazing production values though, a real looker.

Star Ocean is even better looking.
