Is this really as cryptic as people say it is?

>> No.4902403

No, not at all, who the fuck told you that?

>> No.4902415

If you go in completely blind, sure. But the game straight-up tells you to read the manual for hints.

>> No.4902417

Zoomers don't get that many games practically REQUIRED that you read the manual and complain that they're "too cryptic"

It's difficult to figure out maybe two or three essential things in the first quest. I wouldn't say cryptic though.

"They" don't think this game is seriously cryptic. This isn't a Simon's Quest shit where people expect you to do shit without a guide.

I didn't have the manual when I first played it, nor did I have an internet connection, nor any friends that played the game. I managed to beat it.

I got lost in the dungeons a lot and my death count was in the 400s by the time I beat the game, but there wasn't anything in the game I couldn't figure out with clues from the old men in the dungeons or the tips you could find by exploring the overworld.

I would have beaten it quicker if I had thought to draw maps of the dungeons as I played. I feel like this is a game that gets better on subsequent playthroughs, when you know the ins and outs of the game.

No. Everything you need to do is hinted at, and the hints aren't particularly difficult to work out if you think a bit.

>> No.4902491

People did beat this game back then. With no internet and other bullshit.

Even I did as a kid and I didn't even had a Club Nintendo subscription. Read the manual (while your dad drives you home after buying it) and actually read what the characters say in the game and you're fine.

>> No.4902503

People calling it cryptic either (a) didn't read the manual, (b) are talking about Second Quest, or (c) think any trial and error at all is "cryptic"

>> No.4902607

>>4902503
Yeah and by the time you get to the second quest, you should be ready for a challenge.

Do games these days have manuals?

>> No.4903381

I don't know about most modern consoles but for the 3DS, the vast majority of them only have a digital manual even if you buy the game physically.
The VC release of LoZ does come with one as well so newer players aren't completely helpless or anything but that one just looks so boring compared to the original manual and the (partial) map it got included with. Ah well, at least it's cheaper than getting a CIB LoZ for the NES.

Manuals are now digital or replaced with tutorials.
