Yup, Quake was a mighty fine game.

Quake was/is cool to watch the pros play. The wild ass shots, map knowledge , the plays where they force the other player to go one way and blast a rocket before they have appeared.

Shame it's not a esport. It's kinda like fighting games where it's really impressive/exciting to watch two people play high-speed chess.

The SP campaign is not as good as Doom. It's still a great game though, and makes good use of 3D capabilities to complement level design, whereas many future games done in its engine turned into "muh realistic architecture" corridors.
Episodes 1 and 2 are good shit in particular.
