I could pick up a more "unique" or elitist title, but whatever, this is an anonymous board. I honestly believe SMW to be the perfect video game.

While it isn’t as visually advanced or as bombastic as Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 3/6 I will always consider Earthbound to be the JRPG to rule them all, it eschews the genre’s conventions, satirizes the hell out of them but still respects the genre enough to make a serious game

When in real life their revealed preference is the latest capeshit and disney wars flicks?

Either one of these absolute legends.
Their sequels may be better on a technical scale but I'd rather kill the two or three hours it takes to beat them in one afternoon than make a commitment to their much longer SNES and N64 counterparts. Also I feel like I need to shelve their sequels for several months or years after beating any of them, but I get the urge to come back to these games at least once a month or every other month.

I'd argue that title goes to Quake 1 or Super Metroid, though SMW is certainly incredibly popular and important.

Best? I dunno, the things we value from games not only vary for each person, they contradict each other. Some people want to be told a story, some people want to tell their own. Some people want to be cheered up, some want to reflect on their own sadness. Maybe you grew up reading books, maybe you watched lots of cartoons. There's no one-size-fits-all "best game".

Just fucking with you, it's DKC2.
