Should I bother equipping party members I don't use? Does this, or any other games in the series force you to switch characters, or anything like that?

>> No.4877310

been a while since I played, but later on in the game, don't you have a "seamless" party in areas with the wagon, meaning another character will jump up to fight if needed?

I seem to recall the final boss knocking the hell out of Alena a few times.

Playing Dragon Quest? No

Go away

>>4877292
No game in the series ever forces you to use certain characters over others

DS isn't retro

If a character dies you can change it for another one in your wagon, so i would say that is not a bad idea to equip all the characters.

You should play it on DQIV on NES as it has a far superior translation, and includes all the cut content.

>> No.4879376

>>4877559
7 kinda does since people leave and join at certain parts.

And you will miss all thr extras added on the ds version and the perty chat re-added on the android version, all because "muh accents", I never thought there would be annoying DQ fans but accent whiners proved me wrong

>> No.4879672

>>4877316
But DQ is pretty much the only must-play jrpg series, all the others fuck up something major that it did right

>> No.4879701

>>4879207
You should play DQ in Japanese.

>> No.4879784

>>4879672
Agreed, DQ games never fucked up so hard that whole stats are bugged and do nothing
>lol DQ is so generic lmao
>can never find anything as perfect/polished as it

>>4879625
Party chat was a mistake, and it never adds anything of value to the game.

>> No.4879964

>>4879924
yeah, it somehow makes the characters in 4 and 6 less likeable.

What the FUCK went wrong?

>> No.4880249

>>4879964
No, Only in VI with Milly, IV characters were blank as fuck without the PC, Everyone on VI is great except for Milly imo,
>>4880162
20 hours until you get the jobs? Not to mention the past island quest for it is one of the longest and most annoyings.
Also the games fucks around with your party because there's isn't a wagon, something IV to VI fucking had.
Oh and some past islands quests were pretty bad, specially the ones before you get the jobs, First dungeon is boring as fuck, the present is boring as fuck until very late ingame but even after all that it's on fourth place of the best DQ games imo.

It's a great game all right but it has it's problems, blocking the post game dungeon trough mini medals was utter bullshit

what the fuck kind of gibberish is this?

>> No.4880710

>>4880694
Accents, I don't think the games ever used them like this but it's not that hard to understand, you're supposed to focus more on how the word sounds.
Dunno why people give a shit about them, for me is the same if a game has accents or not, neither do I understand why they trough they were good idea, They are really fucking pointless imo but not a nuisance

>Extremely slow pacing (3 hours before first battle) wore down all but the biggest of fans
>Class system that encouraged people to fight the easiest battles that still counted towards progress, as certain hybrid classes may require over 1000 random battles to obtain
>If too high leveled, battles don't count towards progressing classes
>Game was occasionally obscure about what to do for story progression; I got hung up a few times between beating a past world and finding enough shards to go to the next one
>Even with rushing through the second disc, I still clocked 119 hours before beating the final boss
>Also got released as one of the very last ps1 games and it was shortly around the same time as FFX was released, so it was practically forgotten
>There is a couple of party members that leave and rejoin, which can screw up party balance because of how far behind they will be in classes compared to the others that stuck around

With all that being said, it is still one of my favorite jrpgs and I'm glad I got a chance to play it on release. It was an amalgamation of everything DQ related up to that point, and then some, which was a big reason for the game length.

Why couldn't DQ4 have a GBC release :(

It got a DS remake, I wish 3 had a DS remake

>> No.4880820

I don't want to play it on the DS though, GBC is maximum comfy in every way
>The aesthetics
>The sound
>The feel of a GBC in your hands

If I'm getting a DS it will be for when the Ni No Kuni translation is done, until then I'll stick with the gameboy/gameboy color
