Digimon World 2 and 3. Awful grindfests.
The third one is the most boring RPG I ever played.

my brother and got a lot of mileage out of this game. I realized it wasn’t the game that was fun, it was gaming with my bro.

A lot of Apogee games.
How I could deal with the choppy movement in games like Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure is beyond me.

There's no save file, so I never got very far into the game. So I assumed it was like Zelda, and the game was this vast open world full of secrets and interesting challenges if only I could get to it.

Then I played it with save states, and turns out it's just Sabre Wulf with a bad FPS slapped onto it.

i always wondered: why did they call them "hero" instead of "ninja" in europe?

>> No.4877495

>>4877296

For the same reason they outlaw nun-chucks. It's "for the children" and "someone might get hurt".
Also, they fucked up the Contra ("Probotector") series beyond belief because "Oh Noes! They're shooting PEOPLE!" Commando ("Space Invasion") too.

Seeing Bubsy turned into a internet meme is so weird to me since I played so much of it as a kid. It's not really a 'shit' game, but there are so many bad design decisions that show it's the result of incompetence on behalf of the developers. It did have decent music though, the forest levels in particular.

It's true. DW2 was eternal, a random encounter might take over 5 minutes no matter how overpowered you were, the assretarded levelling system with caps and resetting. Fuck that game, honestly.

DW3 was all style zero fun.

DW and DCB are the honest good Digimon games (ever)

>> No.4877681

Driver 2. I didn't bother with undercover I just cruised around in Take a Ride exploring the open world and sometimes glitching it.

I thought I was the only one. It's got a ton of problems, but it's not even close to unplayable and I had fun with it as a kid.

Awesome Possum though, I knew was shit even as a kid. I still have my original copy and I opened it up again only to find it not only had the manual in pristine condition, but also all the inserts. It tells me I probably played it once or twice, thought it was shit, and never touched it again.

I hated that game even as a kid.

>bad design decisions
Jesus, it had that in spades. The blind jumps combined with fall damage ensured that you were gliding more than you should have been, and often into horrendously placed obstacles that you couldn't avoid because gliding makes you move about four times faster than normal.
When it wasn't doing any of those things, it was ok but still unremarkable.

>> No.4877750

>>4875868
You're just baiting but as a kid I vastly preferred World to SMB3, now I'm firmly in the SMB3 camp.

I always thought the fall damage criticism was retarded. Falling damage was negated within like less than a second of gliding. All you have to do is press the glide right before you hit the ground. After playing it enough it was easy to tell when you'd die from landing. Overall it was like pressing down in Sonic games to roll while running. If you were afraid because you weren't sure where the ground was, press glide intermittently just to slow you decent. You could even glide straight down by just rocking the d-pad back and forth.
No, the main issues were the terrible hit detection, unwieldy momentum, and cheap enemy placement/stage layout, coupled with every fucking thing killing you. Except for the ice creams in the carnival stage, for some reason.
I still fucking liked it though. To play that game through you have to become a master of the stage layout and enemy placement, and as a kid that's easier to do because you have so much time.

I wouldn't necessarily call it shit, but yeah, JP could have turned out so much better...
Anyone know any specifics of the development? I could bet it was rushed out to coincide with the movie's buzz (as movie tie-ins tend to).

[sight ]If it only had...
- used the same isometric perspective for indoors sections as opposed to that sluggish af FPS mess
- battery save or passwords
- map system
- being able to check your inventory (ID cards, batteries, NV goggles, etc.)
- something resembling an ending, instead of that big 'fuck you for playing' at the end.

DW3 is so bad but I can't hate it and replay it regularly.
