It isn't exclusive to a single generation, there's a lot of Gen X, Gen Y and (mostly) Gen Z SJWs.
The thing is, it didn't exist back in /vr/ times. There were conservative people in America trying to ban games though, which was similar, but since the internet didn't exist yet in the social media shitfest that is today, it wasn't a prevalent annoyance.
