I think I lucked out on living in Columbus, OH.

There's a barcade that's supposed to be built this summer that has a bunch of retro games, but 2 hours south in Cincinatti from me is Arcade Legacy, which is known to cater to both retro-gaming and fighting game services. The owner's a pretty cool dude. They also own a Space Jam Pinball Machine, and Drummania machine. 2 Hours north of me is Findlay, where GamerVG is, which has one of the very few DJ MAX Technika 3 arcade machines.

There are places around me that have arcade games, but the last dedicated arcade closed down a few months ago. It wasn't that great so I don't mind much. Only game I liked playing there was that one Konami motion boxing game.

The few places I know of are Dave and Busters, some other amusement type place with mini golf and shit. A barcade that has mostly 80's cabinets, of which I am only interested in Joust and the 5 pinball tables.

Let me list of some games and you see how many you know at least something about.

Panzer Dragoon Saga
Super Mario RPG
Chrono Trigger
Snatcher
Gunstar Heroes
Castlevania 3
Shining Force

The average person will have little to minimal knowledge of these titles. This is to be completely expected.

Yet in the future, current major mainstream titles are going to the the things that people on this board talk about.

I have this place within a five minute walk of my house. I think it was a Capcom thing. In any case, their gimmick is that instead of quarters, you use nickels; however, the cost generally comes out to be about the same, considering some games cost 6 nickels per play, or some that cost eight. There are some machines that are free play, and some that only cost a nickel or two. The thing about it though is that they charge admission there, and the machines aren't very well maintained.

The place kinda sucks in my opinion, but they could very much make it a better arcade if they tried. I think that they are on their last legs though. It's a $2 admission, or if you buy ten admissions at once, it's $1.25 each time. I have fond childhood memories with the place. I wish I could make it a really good place to go to have fun. They could really use some more modern games to attract some more people.

fuck that, Pinball Pete's is asscrack

their 3S machine has been busted for like, i shit you not, 6+ years. I have to try to beat dudes with Q while not being able to use MP or up-left.

that being said they have a lot of other nice games that work but the reason the MI FGC doesn't go there is because some of their fighting games are in dire need of repair and the owners never repair them. The arcade is pretty okay but that 3S machine makes my blood boil over how long its been broken

Who the hell would call "old arcade" or "retro arcade" as "vintage arcade". It sounds so hipsteric and stupid. Just like when some faggots say "grapic novel" instead of "comic"/"manga".

I live near an English seaside city so there's a fairly large stretch of arcades with generic 10~ year old games.

Annoyingly that now that I have read the manga, that Fist of the North Star game with the punching gloves has vanished from every one so I'll never get to play that with knowledge of the characters.

Last time I went one had put Point Blank back out from some reason so it was amazing to play that again, although it was pretty depressing as I was playing it alone.

Let's see...Seattle

We have gameworks downtown...which is decent. Nothing too impressive.

There's a mini arcade inside Pink Gorilla up in the u district, which is cool for what it is.

Then there's a pinball museum in the international district which I hear is pretty sick.

Full Tilt, an ice cream shop, has several cabinets and pinball machines.

Then there's Narwall, below Unicorn (bar), which has several cabinets and pinballs. Its full barcade, if anything. Its pretty nifty but the crowd from Unicorn is pretty obnoxious.

Then in Renton, there's this new barcade opening up this summer. I'm super stoked. It looks very very promising.

The arcade that was open for the entire length of my life closed a year and a half ago. There was a competitor down the street that opened like five years ago and closed two years ago, and one in the mall further down that just never seemed to get its feet to begin with. There are ostensibly places that still exist like twelve towns over but I don't have a car. Not even the movie theaters have more than one game anymore. I miss DDR and fighting games, man.

As a lover of all things arcade, one thing that pisses me off to no end is when people call the 80's the "golden age" of arcade gaming.

Like, really? I know arcades were on the decline even in the early 90's, but there is not a single arcade game from the 80's that was not bested later on. Just because that was when arcade gaming first got popular does not make it its "golden age".

From Space Invaders, we got Raiden II and Battle Garegga. From Karate Champ, we got Street Fighter and Samurai Shodown. The list goes on, and you can, for the most part, argue the same thing about arcade games from the 90's vs 00's!

Anyways OP, to answer your question, I lived in Northern California until recently, which has a lot of minigolf courses and stuff like that, so there's still a good number of arcades there. As far as arcades with a good selection of modern/relevant titles, there was Gamecenter in San Mateo.

The reason that it's called "golden age" is because games like Galaga and Dig-Dug never get old (in comparison with most shit from Atari era), games like Pac-Man made videogames more mainstream, games like Space Invaders and Donkey Kong put the standards for later games that followed...

It was an era that you had to make something original in order to be successful in comparison with most '90s games that focused a lot to the cool graphics.

I've been to Pete's and it seemed like everything besides the pinball was broken. Sad because they actually had a Flash Beats but of course that was broken.

Also I've been to arcade infinity in LA when it was still open, pretty cool selection of games and nothing but candy cabs. They even had a Japanese typing of the dead.

But in my area in Minneapolis we have two places, insert coins which is a barcade type place and another called rusty quarters which is run by the two most inept people on earth who always resort to begging for money to stay open because they don't know how to run a business nor are they willing to listen to sound advise. I've volunteered to repair their machines because they keep breaking them and never turn them off and I've even offer to loan them games free of charge (I have about 45 pcbs) and they straight up turned me down. Tards. They don't even have any really great titles.

You are entirely too nice and they are entirely too retarded. It's to be expected, though, of a barcade owner.

Too weak-willed to open an arcade out of love, despite the fact that it's a poor business decision, too stupid to save himself the trouble and open up a proper bar instead.

http://www.rqarcade.com

Literally they had a tempest machine for 3 days before they broke it. And when shit breaks there they just toss it and try to buy new cabs, like the idea of repairs is completely foreign to them. They had a street fighter alpha 3 that had the battery die and I said I could get it revived for them. For free. And they declined. And then I asked to buy it from them and they declined again. They probably just threw it away.

How horrible. Seriously, who does that? I mean you've got to have some love for the hobby to want to open an arcade to begin with, but then to treat your games like that? It feels like the "in crowd" that's talked about so much, the kind that buys Earthbound just to have it and take a picture with it.
It's like they're running an arcade for the sake of saying "I run an arcade!"

Even though they're different people, I still think poorly of barcades.
