Alright so I've finally decided to give this game a shot, and I gotta say I'm enjoying it so far. The music's awesome. I wasn't expecting top notch dubbing, especially from an old square game. Xenogears thread.

It's a long, long, long game in general. And if you're not heavily invested in the characters and story by the second disc, the endless exposition really drags on you. And then it's like suddenly Gear battle for no reason. Then more Shinji episodes. It's a good story if you have the patience, but the payoff almost isn't worth it.

Great FMV and wonderful song at the end, though. If you're going to play, pick up the undubbed version, the battle voices are so much better. And there's a gameshark code to speed up the INCREDIBLY SLOW SCROLLING TEXT WHY CAN'T I JUST PRESS A BUTTON TO SKIP I'VE READ IT ALREADY.

I loved fighting with Emeralda.

Disc 2 is told mainly via narration and so it's about half as long as the first. Instead of putting you in actual scenes, it'll show a backdrop of what's happening and maybe put the relevant characters in front of it like it's a theater production sort of.

Basically, the story doesn't really drop in quality, it's just presented in a way that's disappointing to people who like to be able to move around a bit and see the full environment. But if you're really in love with the Xenogears story, it's not as big of a problem as people make it out to be. Mainly, there's just a few areas that could have used expanding, and the balance of combat is somewhat off.

Pretty much the only conntection Xenosaga has to Xenogears is that Xenosaga ep 1 and Xenogears both started in T.C. 4767. Other than that Xenosaga had a lot of simialr plot points and pretty much was dub the spiritual successor to Xenogears. Xenoblade has no connection.

granted, xenosaga was a rewrite of draft material, so i'm sure the periods after xenosaga III would have been different than how they happened in xenogears if they were actually made.

You'll be pretty hard up for money most of the time and grinding won't fix that because monsters rarely drop money (although you can sell their item drops if you're lucky). In gear sections you want to make engine buying a top priority because those increase your attack (the "output" parameter = physical attack increase). Also you don't get gear healing for a while so you're going to have to manage your HP and/or bulldoze everything as fast as possible (hence, higher attack power, hence engines).

>I'm 28 and I am also old.
Hi /vr/, I'm 35. Feeling old gets worse every year. I understand now why most adults never give a fuck about birthdays anymore. One foot closer to the grave...

At least my wife doesn't give me shit about my collection or playing (when I actually have time to).

I will never understand what the hell happened with Xenosaga 2. The character redesigns were fucking bonkers and they gave bullshitty reasons for doing it.

I can't get this game to work on PSP

Yeah, some investment in Ether with offense magic characters (...so Elly pretty much) can be disturbingly effective compared to on foot. Plus you can actually buy an Ether Doubler on disc 1 (albeit you'll need to grind for the cash), which can result in a ludicrous damage increase.

?
I don't understand. Here I was feeling like while Square was standalone they made really great games while after the movie flop i.e. the Enix merge they turned to the worse. Dramatically.

Yeah, seems like the Enix portion of Squeenix is making better games these days.

I'm 34, and I've already died once. Age doesn't matter to me because I know the oblivion that awaits. So I play video games while waiting for my heart to fuck off for more than ten minutes.

Did chu ever realize just how big of an asset Chu-Chu can actchually be?

Chu-Chu is the only one who can heal gears in combat, though it's not a huge amount. Mid-dungeon, if Chu-Chu soaks a lot of damage, you can just heal her as a character with hob-steaks or whatever and her gear-sized HP will go to full also. She's the only character whose stats affect her gear combat, so you can actually beef her up. On foot, she also has a lot of unique ethers as well. Plus, she gets custom equips that give good bonuses (Chu-Chu Idol -- attack, defense, ether and ether def +20%).

I regret that you don't get to use her until pretty late into disc 1 even though she's there for basically the entire game.

Best wishes to you, mang. Sorry you drew a bad lot. Time is precious. I'm now older than my older brother, who died of cancer at 24.

Play dem vidya while you can, kiddos.

But she's insufferable as a character. Basically a pink ewok.

I used a cheat to give myself infinite money and bought enough stat boosting items to max Chu-Chu's stats, and she still can't outperform a gear with an OMEGA100 and a GNRS50

Chu-Chu is not a masterpiece of writing, but the funny thing is that actual thought went into the character and its race, including the absurd growth.

>The Ooki tribe being aboriginal lifeforms, have possessed high intelligence since the Zeboim era. The surviving animals escaped after the total nuclear war from laboratories and genetic research facilities across the ruined surface - giving birth to the first demi-humans. The sudden mutation of many aboriginals also advanced the Ooki tribe. At that time they had gigantic bodies, but Limiters placed by Solaris keeps them at a fixed small size.

No, I wouldn't use Chu-Chu in a slugfest, but over long periods of time bringing her can be a good option (i.e. the last dungeon). You can take off your Frame HPs and equip Beam Coats or Anti-Angel Systems instead, maximizing your coverage. Of course, this would be more pronounced if Xenogears was balanced well.
