Well I can relate at least in part when it comes to Super Mario World.
I just feel like, compared to SMB3, it's art design looks way too plain and the color choices are too over-saturated.
Still doesn't make it an outright ugly game but i wouldn't say it's visuals are it's strong point.

I've only played the original halo, and i'd been playing PC and console games since 94, but playing halo 1 for the first time blew my socks off. Something about the pacing, the pretty environments, the fast paced action sequences (with recharging shield) and the pumping music, it was just a really well done game. I can understand why it became a big franchise.

Fun fact, these games both used a simple graphics compression method where instead of having 4 bits per pixel, they only used 3. The downside is it meant each 8x8 pixel tile could only have 8 colors instead of the usual 16, which is why these games look a lot simpler than most other SNES games.
