Were there any good Cyberpunk games before Deus Ex? (Other then system shock)

I'm OK with PC-88 and other obscure platforms. If the game is good I will figure out a way to run it (I'm a software engineer)

DX is nearly 20 years old, it is retro whether fags like it or not.

Oxford dictionary:
"retro1
adjective

Imitative of a style or fashion from the recent past.
‘retro 60s fashions’"

For you console fags DX is Dreamcast era stuff.

Ghost in the Shell for example started in the 80's but there are games and films made today. The SAC saga is retro now.

Not an argument. 5th gen was the pioneer/experimental days of 3D before it became homogenized, so it should count as retro.

Deus Ex is a "minimun CPU required Pentium II-recommended CPU Pentium III" game, both hardware from the mid-late 90's around the same time as the PS and N64, those games should be allowed. The ones that recommends Pentium 4, or even requires minimun Pentium III only, aren't retro anymore because those look like or are literally PS2 games.

To be clear I said "before Deus Ex" so prior to June 2000.

All games based on the first Unreal engine and first 3 Quake engines are retro today. They won't run today without 3rd party modifications unless you have something like a Dreamcast (which was the last 'real' console IMHO BTW).

Other then linear textures and more polygons 3D games are essentially the same stuff since circa 2000 to today. Same shit, more polygons. I understand why one would question 3d games being retro but I think at this point this software is old enough. You can't just insert the retail CD of Deus Ex you bought in 2000 into the cd drive and expect it to run on your Windows 10 OS. You would need to get a processor from 10-15 years ago to run retail.

Steam is cancer by the way, you don't own your games. I remember buying retail Half Life 2 and not being able to run it because of this cancer requiring an Internet connection to call home like some malware.

Sure this is part of it, but lighting and visual effects kept improving dramatically for another decade, only in the last few years has 3d graphics stopped improving much IMO. I mean, in 2000 we didn't even have programmable shaders yet, it was still fixed 3d pipeline, and it wasnt until ~2005 where shaders got unrestricted enough by hardware to start doing cool/complex algorithms.
When(if) consumer-level raytracing takes off we might see another big jump in graphics.
I only mention this to put our /vr/ 3d discussion in perspective.
