It's an old ass TC for doom that is loosely based on George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead (and even Day of the Dead in the later levels). It's a pretty cool TC considering it's fucking old (1995 !). I always loved it when I was younger so I'm remaking it for GZDoom.

I would suggest the WolfenDoom ones made by Laz Rojaz, but they're very vintage and outdated and most were made for Doom Legacy (hehehahah!), not ZDoom.

My favorites were always:
Operation: Arctic Wolf
Operation: Eisenmann
Operation: Rheingold
Also the Astrostein ones, but they were more about aesthetic and feel more like a gauntlet of levels than an adventure. (aka basic Wolfenstein gameplay)

Laz disappeared though, so unfortunately we won't get to see his work anymore.

In the smooth doom options you can turn giblets off, which I like because my FPS shits itself when I rawket lawnchair a large group of enemies. However, I also like to have the Super Shotgun Gibs Enemies option on because its super satisfying. Would it be possible to make an edit so enemies ONLY gib from the super shotgun? And to possibly fix the fact that imps are seemingly excluded from the do not gib option? (they still gib if blown up with rocket launcher even if the no gibs option is turned on,)

How did /vr/ like Doom 2016? Just finished it on ultraviolence, and then did another run in arcade mode on nightmare, and yeah, it kicked ass. Best shooter the AAA games industry has put out in years. If I have one complaint, its that it was overall too easy. Ultraviolence was a cakewalk save for a couple of arena fights, and even nightmare doesnt give me too much trouble. Looking forward to seeing the real pain in the ass enemies of previous entries return in the next one.

Anyone else played this? I just started it and so far it seems like an excellent classic campaign. The first level really pushed the whole "monster closet/teleporter trap behind you" shtick but it's solid otherwise and the next two levels I've played didn't have the same problem. There's also a lot of nice architecture. Someone posted an improved version in the comments section that fixes some bugs and also implements colored lighting (optional, you can remove pak1.pak if you don't want it).

What stands out immediately is how flat the map is, try add some height variation in some rooms.

The rooms are quite large so its easy to run passed most monsters which is fine at first because the map loops around but later on monsters can be ignored.

There's no way back to the blue key if you happen to miss it.

The nukage floor is pointless - damaging floors are good for forcing the player into difficult situations by making them run into a fight but with no monsters at the end and a medikit right there to undo the damage there's no reason for this one to be a damaging floor really.

A lone archvile isn't that threatening especially when you have the SSG, you might want to change those bodies into actual dead monsters using barrels so they can be revived.

The final fight is a nice throwback to E2M8 but again its easy to run straight by. Also the invul secret is untagged but is probably too much anyway.

It's not bad for an early map, the texture theming is consistent and I like how restrained you've been with the monster choices, keep at it!

So what makes a good Doom multiplayer map in your opinion? My experience with online FPS make me want to say having multiple avenues so people won't be constantly going the same way thus avoiding too much repetitiveness. Part of me also wants to say balancing the map to be fair so you won't be completely screwed if you get a bad spawn at the beginning.

Revenants will break the chain lock too and when they do its nasty. But I guess thats about equivalent to taking a rocket from them anyway, it can be worth it but not if you have a gun that can spare the ammo to remove skeleton.

Pain Elementals are the most recked by the chainsaw (but I have punched them like 50 times up close) because when they die you move into the space they occupied and their death throes is cancelled because the skulls dont have anywhere to spawn. Catching a PE in a corner is worthy of eating a dessert afterwards.

I just want it to be tougher. bethesdoom felt like it was intended for casuals sometimes. Only like 2 high threat enemies, chainsaw can instagib about 2 of them before running out of ammo, BFG can clear an entire wave in each shot, and holds 3 charges, and ammo is common, every arena fight has an orb in it somewhere, etc.

I'm not an excellent player myself either and even I found myself blazing through the maps barely paying any mind to anything but my own speed, and I'd like the game to have a bit more depth to the way it plays other than being fast for the sake of being fast. more, deadlier enemies, more complex maps, less limitations in regards to enemy placement and usage, etc.

the original game could be improved upon on many, many fronts, and if the teaser and word from the devs themselves are anything to go by, they definitely took note. I'm pretty amped about it, I'd just love some variety thrown in, and they seem to be eager to deliver. so long as they deviate from the nu-wolf formula as hard as they can and they don't drop the ball they like fucking machinegames did, it should be okay.

The thing is, its really not a vast minority. If you look at the incredible success of games like Cuphead and Dark Souls/ Bloodborne, you can see that there is still a huge community of gamers who like a challenge. Look at games like Yooka-Laylee and Mighty Number 9, which may have been crap on release, but still had massive, unprecedented success in their kickstarter phase due to people wanting these kinds of old school games to come back. The characterisation of Doomslayer is pretty good overall and starts strong, but they tell you way too much shit afterwards in my opinion.

Like who he was, why he started rampaging about (when even they said everything about that is stupid) , where his armor was made, etc etc. The tablets are cool but they also begin to feel Moffat-ish in that they imply a lot of cool shit has happened, while showing nothing quite of that magnitude (hopefully yet. Eternal is about a planet level invasion so).

Oh, okay. It's pretty fun to me. All of the attacks and weapons for both characters are satisfying and feel good to use. The firemace shotgun in particular feels great. I really get a Sir Arthur vibe from Lord Blaz when using the torch and lance subweapons along with him being short. One other thing though, the drop rate of the dagger subweapons when playing the Doomslayer seems exceptionally low. I played 8 maps of Scythe2 before seeing my first one drop.

Arthur and Adol Christin are two of my biggest inspirations for Blaz, so you're right on the money there, as for the daggers being uncommon, that's RNG being RNG, subweapon chests will pop up for either character at the same rate.
Unless you're talking about the variety of daggers inside the chests, then yeah that's kinda be a little off due to the Doomslayer's low subweapon count.

Is there anything really simple I can change in SLADE or whatever that'll make blood fly out properly when using Droplets v_15 red? Here's an idea: make golfball drastically increase in damage after each wall/ceiling bounce.
The damage increase is kept for the next shot, and increases accordingly with rebounds.
Probably alter the ball's look depending on current damage (and score) multiplier.
The damage is kept same if enemy is hit with no rebounds, and multiplier gets halved (and lost if it's below 4) if you don't hit an enemy at all.

Version of 2001 still exists and was 90% done before getting iced. One of the devs has the playable beta but cant release it because Prickford prohibits the release of any developed Duke materials for free. It may or may not be included in the next Duke compilation by Gearbox.

I can enjoy slaughter, but I don't like it when regular wads become slaughter because their idea of difficulty = a fuckton of enemies. Stuff like Vanguard is very fun. Because it's well-designed, and you have plenty of good weapons & ammo to take on the enemies.
