This may sound really autistic but does the Mario cast look a lot more baby faced than they used to? There's some sort of aesthetic difference I can't put my finger on.

that's kinda outdated, the mario art style has shifted a little bit since then

there's a bunch of proportion changes to make everyone a tiny bit closer to the classic art style again but the most important difference is that the shading and lighting actually looks good as heck now, and there's a lot more detail to everyone

The designs and artistic qualities of the current 3D models are objectively better now because Nintendo finally learned that you don't shade with black. The colors actually work and conform to good rules of color theory for making appealing characters and scenes.

That being said, the old style of 2D art remains the GOAT and I want a Mario game fully animated like this.

I don’t know about you, but while I agree that he became less t-rex-like since somewhere in N64 days (mostly because having a shorter body is easier to model for playable appearance like Mario Party, but you have to wonder why they’re able to properly use Donkey Kong, who’s body is more wider than the others), I don’t think many people would have a hard time figuring out he’s supposed to be a dinosaur by his modern design alone.

I think you're probably on to something with the springfield thing. Though I feel like it wouldn't even always be a major Wario Ware character that gets focused on. I could see a whole 2 minute segment just focused on that beautiful woman with the snotty nose from a random mini game. Seems like exactly the kind of thing that Japan would produce. I'm pretty sure the models would be .obj or .dae files, since most work was done on Wavefront or Alias software back then (ie. Nintendo used Alias PowerAnimator for MK64, among others)
I'm pretty sure something like Blender would be able to open both filetypes, unless I'm missing something here.

Not exactly incompatible, but most CG of this kind was done with NURBs back then, with lots of overlapping blobs and shapes instead of "proper" flowing topology to allow smooth deformations in animation; so most of that stuff would be pretty unusable even if it was available.

That's disappointing to know.
Still, I want the models to be found, mostly to preserve parts of gaming history.
