I bought PS1 which came with stack of pirated games.
Now i'm wondering what kind of mod has been done to it, if any of you know.
Model is pal scph 9002.

I dunno, perhaps google "playstation mod chip"?

https://www.mod-chip.net/psxmodchips.htm

this is exactly what I used to have back in the day. It will include instructions where you unscrew the PS1 and solder the mod chip directly to the motherboard. it's pretty easy. good luck

just try an antimodchip game and if it works, who gives a fuck what it is

Seems so yeah. Do you know if the chip makes the console region free, or does it just allow it to play burned games?

It's deprecated and I don't remember, it was the first ever I think. There's like 6 other ones for PS1 nowadays and no one uses it. Burn a JP game and dino crisis if you want to test but I don't even know if those will work on your TV.

There's a long story about it and how it came to be, but it's in the undergrounds of the internet as a text file I read several years ago if you really want me to dig for it.

Borrowing this thread to ask a dumb question.
Has PS1 piracy on PS2 improved over the years? Or am I stuck doing disc swaps till the end of time?

>>4838889
Well, i'm not interested playing "backups" on it, but if i do test it with burnt game and it works, does it mean it will work with originals too? I do know some games won't work, since they have extra protection.
Also tv should be fine since i have japanese 3DO hooked up to it.
