With as long as I've been out (and my sheer reluctance to even try the French version of the DOS game I found (which was the only version I could find at all), I'll eat the restart.

Hey gauntleteers, I was the one who rolled the NES game Wit's in the previous thread. I got my friend to start up the gauntlet as well and decided to reroll my NES game so we could have the thrill of both rolling our games at the same time. I don't really know the technical rules of rerolling NES games since you can't go down a tier, but if I'm breaking any code of honor I can go back to my old game.

The game I rolled is Toki, which has been beaten by another Anon who got a high score of 140,600. I don't know anything about the game, but it seems like a pretty tough score to beat.

So, this game, it's a platformer, you run around and collect CDs. Can jump pretty high, you can roll up into a ball of spikes to kill enemies, and you can also explode. The biggest thing about this game is that it has gravity like Super Mario Galaxy, where if there is a platform above you can jump and he will stick to it, and the camera turns too.

Which means that I am getting nauseated and a massive headache, but I will persevere

Alright, because the last thread hit image limit, I took caps while I played until a new thread was made. I'll provide little commentaries and what not for this picture. I started this challenge around 9PM.

1) I jumped in this game not knowing what the hell to expect. An inventory screen popped up briefly and I wasn't able to read it in time. I tried to enter the building, thinking it was a city but...

2) It turned out to be a labyrinth. The paths are blacked out until you travel to them. This gets a bit annoying and yet helpful later on in its own way, which I will explain. I tried to figure out how to attack, which happens to be a bow and arrow. The arrows in this game have an... interesting property where they bounce off of walls. I end up taking off 2 of my 4 health points not realizing what was going on.

3) I decide to take a look at my inventory. I am stocked with 3 Carls, no fairies, and 55 arrows. A pretty good start. Collecting 4 fairies grants an extra Carl, which are a vital asset.

4) I stumble through the game and lose a Carl by running into a skeleton. Bad start! However, I find that skeleton mofo again and kill it and get a key. After collecting more arrows, I find a door and escape the labyrinth.

5) After feeling my way through another labyrinth, I discover there are a few different kinds: caves, towers, forests, and a mountain. The caves are laid out in the same way, as are the towers and forests. I pick up a tomahawk later on and have no clue what to do with it, so it sits in my inventory for later use. Oh yeah, in this picture I find an invincibility power up.

6) After defeating many caverns, I go to a tower and get some fairies in an attempt to get more Carls.

7) And then I take on the mountain. It just screams boss lair.

8) I come across a mysterious rectangle and step on it, hoping it's not a trap. it turns out to be a hot spring that recharges life! to be continued...

>> No.456161

>>456131
9) I find a sweet power up after killing a fucking dinosaur.

10) And then I find the boss and take a very badly timed screenshot of it going up in smoke. Protip: hit its right leg to kill it

11) After that, there's a cutscene of the hero shooting downa dragon.

12) ......And then, for a while, I was entranced by this game and forgot to take screenshots. But I took a poorly timed screenshot of the dragon going up in smoke it was the left leg this time.. I swear, I will show off the dragon one way or another.

After this, I got to the third world and game overed. LUCKILY, there's a password system... but I lost all my arrows. I have a feeling this is going to be a pain. The neat thing is if you die in a labyrinth but attack an enemy, they will maintain the damage you've done to them.

Another thing I found is if you linger too long in a cave, some worms pop out of the ground and try to kill you.

The cave system is pretty interesting. Because the parts you haven't traveled to are blacked out, you can't see enemies coming at you in the dark. However, it's helpful in figuring out which way you should go, like "oh I haven't been this way before, I should try it out."
Also, the game is pretty minimal in music, it kinda reminds me of Atari games in that sense.
Also, since I game over'd, I'm down to 3 Carls and 7 arrows... fuck.

Made it through the ice cave no problem. I had a little trouble with this elephant fucker of a boss though. He would shoot his tusks at me boomerang-style, whip his trunk at me, and then he straight up charged my ass when he was hp critical. The boss fights in this game are pretty awesome.

The next zone was a jungle area, which is Toky's native land, so I kicked its ass. Fought a few enemies that looked like Andross (not shown), then made it to the boss. This was another cool fight. The hands and feet moved independently, and I had to attack the heart. If I dealt enough damage to it, one of the hands would grab its heart for a few seconds keeping me from shooting it. Pretty neat.

Then came level 6. This one was a sort of a medieval theme. There were giant hammer things that acted like thwomps and a bunch of knight guys. I kind of got my ass kicked repeatedly here, especially at the cart-like section (I swear this is the prequel to donkey kong country).

I finally ran out of continues here and was sent back to the title screen. If this were any other game, I'd be pretty upset, but I really enjoyed the levels and wouldn't mind going back to play them again now that I know what I'm doing.

I'll still probably take a break right now though.. Probably get some sleep. Good night, gauntleteers. Don't let the frustration bring you down!

So I was playing Lethal Enforcers. It's a Konami made lightgun game for the Genesis. Overall, it's pretty much shit with a great soundtrack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLOKey6sirg

I'm using mouse support in Kega. Honestly, the reaction times you need are so strict that I think using a gamepad would be absolutely awful. A lot of enemies if you miss once, you'll get shot. Otherwise, it plays like a flash tier shooter. The screen stays in one spot while the same guys pop up in the same spots. When that's over, the screen will scroll over slightly and you'll fight the same exact guys. Rinse and repeat.

The worst part about this game is the innocent people. They're fucking everywhere. They pop out all the fucking time. There's even one asshole that pops out with a camera and takes your picture. Of course, half the time I think the flash is a gun and shoot the dumb fuck. Why is this awful though? Because if you shoot even one innocent, you'll have to restart the level. This stupid fucking game will let you finish the ENTIRE level and then when the report comes in, it'll note you shot one innocent and make you redo the assignment. It's brutal.

The second level was China Town themed and you shot a lot of chinese people. It ended with a boss that slices open a train and you shoot him 'til he falls off the train. Pic related is level 3 and so far it's fucking tough. If you miss one guy then you're fucked because the other 4 that pop up won't wait for you to kill that one guy. This fucking game.

In the end, sure. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for lightgun games and I've never really played one on the Genesis before. It's total 90's kitsch too. Everything is taken from photographs/videos so you can tell they at least tried to put some work into this game and it looks pretty decent for a genesis game. But, there's so little content they obviously ramped up the difficulty to compensate. They did make a sequel so I might actually check that out.

I won I guess. Not a good racing game. The perspective is fixed on the car in 1st place and if you hit the edge of the screen, it bubbles you back up. The problem being, is that if you hit something, it takes so long for your car to gain back speed that you'll get bubbled 4 or 5 times and frequently get bubbled into obstacles. Not to mention, if you're in first, you're so close to the edge of the screen that you can't really see what turns are coming up. Also, if you buy the wrong upgrades for your car, you're fucked.

My eyes hurt.

So Cu-On-Pa is basically rolling around a die to have its number match a tile's number, except it's colors instead of numbers. That's the easiest way I can explain it. Easy Mode simplifies it by adding only three colors to your cube, whereas Normal Mode adds six colors. My mind can't take six colors, so this is all I got.

I'm not sure if beating it on Easy Mode is kosher, but beating all three modes in three days is crazy, and beating one of the other modes in three days will drive me nuts and will probably end in failure. Besides, I'm guessing Normal Mode is like Easy Mode and has 100 levels, so fuck that.

So I guess I'll go onto the next level. Game Boy time!

Made it past the minecarts, which had stopped me yesterday. The boss was right after that section, and he had a few forms. I lost a few lives, but it wasn't too difficult. I guess that was the final boss because I turned into a human afterward. And I guess a girl was involved in all of that as well.

I really enjoyed Toky. It was by far the least frustrating NES game I've had on the gauntlet. The game was very forgiving, which is rare for an NES game. All of the boss fights were pretty fun, and the overall gameplay was pretty fun too. I kind of wish it was a little longer though, but oh well. I definitely recommend this game to anyone else interested. It can easily be beaten in one sitting.

... Well now. That was fast.

Five short stages and infinite continues doesn't bode well for this game. Neither does that weird decision to make you use up part of your life for a screen-clearing bomb... which is used immediately after double-tapping the fire button. That last boss didn't even feel like the last boss, either. Hell, he was easier to abuse than other bosses.

It's not too bad overall, but I can't imagine it lasting longer than three days if I ever bought it. And that's me being generous. Off to the Genesis!

Don't know the game but it's based on a manga about The Evil Wizard who Returns to Fuck Some Shit Up in pseudo-D&D Land and gets into fights with his old pals over who is the real ruler of his world. His spells are named after metal bands and songs like Helloween.
It goes to shit later on with the author being all over the place, adding new crazed backgrounds and spending several chapters on just drawing shit fights elaborately. (which wouldn't be bad except he can't pace for shit)
He's even rebooting the manga from the beginning now iirc.

anyhow, that wasn't what I was getting at anyhow, that isn't what gets me at all, it's the people that actually go out of their way in everything they do, even when it's related to a silly forum on the internet where everyone will forget you in 8 hours, to make sure that people know you feel you are better than them for doing things a different way than they do that I have a problem with here

Let's put it this way:

A video game developer creates a digital master copy of their video game.
Playing this on the intended hardware, rather than an emulator, will give a closer experience to what the developers finalized in their master copy.

A musician produces a digital master copy of an album. Listening to this on CD, instead of vinyl, will give a closer experience to what the musician finalized in his master copy.

Mastered, not remastered. If the artist produces his work digitally in the first place, there's nothing to be gained by distributing in vinyl. There's a hell of a lot that can go wrong, though.

why do you think that I was only reffering to new releases? Also, not all newer albums are mastered digitally, there are some indie bands that don't, also vinyl reproduces a different range of sounds than CDs do, which some people prefer, to make this short, music is a much more subjective art form than video games so different people like different things about it and they should be free to enjoy them the way they want to without some one getting irationally angry about it.

Yeah, I think I might just give up getting Alien Logic running. I haven't been able to start it once because of a multitude of problems related to the virtual machines. The biggest is that half of them don't even support Windows 98 anymore let alone anything before that. I can get DOS running but then I have to face the problem of not being able to transfer Alien Logic to the DOS drive and then deal with the drivers I need for DOS regarding mouse control and even CDRom support.

The closest I came was getting Windows 98 running WITH sound in VMware Fusion but then it won't mount .bin or .cue. I can't run Alien Logic without mounting the disc and changing .bin to .iso just gives me a "where's the CD ya cheeky cunt" error in Alien Logic. In short, fuck it.

I rolled again and Starflight 2: Trading Routes of the Cloud Nebula. I've never found space trading games good but I do love interfacing with weird aliens so this might be a good pick. I'll start my challenge tomorrow.

Can't get it to work with sound. Even if you run it without sound, there's all kinds of speed issues. Because this was a game I bought back in late 90's/early 2000's and couldn't get it to run then either, I thought I'd just fiddle around extra to see if I could get it to work.

Barring complete blind luck by guessing his punches before he even telegraphs them, it's literally impossible. The latency added by emulator + LCD screen pushes the timing for his moves beyond what's physically possible for human reflexes.

Eckh... I'm way too tired to explain everything that's happened. The game is an action rpg, and it's based entirely on information gathering (that I get from killing random enemies). Much like castlevania 2, the game is designed around me having to know everything I'm supposed to do before I get anywhere. Which means I get a clusterfuck of information from the enemies (I'm screencapping everything everyone says) and the world layout is entirely unintuitive. I'm just glad I'll have a week for this mess.
I made some progress already though. Got to level 6, got 1 of 5 magical books, and got a couple special items. I'm running out of places to go though, and because of the game's style, I have no idea if I'm going ahead of where I should be. I'm probably going to be mad stuck in this game. Frequently.

However, some keys just open up paths that lead you back where you came, making the maze more difficult. If you only grab certain keys, you get through it quicker.

Yes, beat plane 3.

You had to find a number of trinkets (placed randomly, though each was reserved to a certain part of the map; one in the corners, one in a teleportation puzzle, one in the invisible maze, and one in a vat of quicksand. The fourth one was the hardest.) Then a goal appeared which you had to go to.

Beat 8. The floor disappears around you, you have to go in a precise order to get to the goal. The physics of the game (namely your tendency to stick to walls for a second) make it more difficult, unfortunately, as you need to have perfect timing. Fortunately, it doesn't actually make you lose if you fall, you just have to go back to the start of the level.

I had to consult the manual for this one. There were blocks of different shading, and that shading represented height. This was a platforming level, and a rather difficult one.

Quedex is a challenging, enjoyable game. I recommend it to anyone who likes to rack their brain trying to figure things out.

Get the manual for it when it's too difficult to figure out. There are two or three in which you need the manual.

In that second row screenshot, THAT'S WHERE YOU SPAWN. THE GAME SPAWNS YOU IN FRONT OF LASERS THAT FRY YOU. You have no mercy invincibility after you get hit, so enemies deplete your health in an instant. And in that last screenshot? I used a bomb, and thought I was a safe distance from it. NOPE, if you're on screen with that bomb, it instantly kills you too. Fucking stupid. And that's his ONLY ATTACK. There are absolutely no continues.

And the controls, oh GOD, the controls. You have more control over the wind than you do with this asshole. Try to make him jump, I dare you. And the platforms... ugh, sometimes you fall right through them.

It's actually really cool, because you have to control altitude and watch fuel and land stealthily, and you can communicate with fighters and attempt to trick them if they're enemies (which is ALWAYS better than fighting since a missile will disable one of your systems).

NYC is strangely devoid of buildings and mostly forest/grassland. Either the devs didn't know anything about the city's layout (which is perhaps expected of Japanese guys) or didn't care.

Well, at least Red is still happy, blissfully unaware of the death of a third of his pack.

Side-scrolling action RPG, yep.
Pretty damn good one too.

Prepare to frustrating boss fights if you rush into them underleveled.

I'm starting to think the Yoshis are all sedated. There should be some kind of creepypasta on this.

Oop, no, I was wrong. It sent me to the next page. I think it must be you choose from multiple levels, which is saddening in that I don't get to play every level in the game, but comforting in that I'll watch less Yoshis be carried away to whatever sex torture Baby Bowser has planned for them.

I'm... at the finale already? This is a hell of a short game. I may have to look at the "Trials" section just so it isn't so anticlimactic, I play through nine systems just to breeze through a game.

And here I was under the assumption it was a great game. Guess that's just my Nintendo fanboy-ism with a game I had never previously played.

>>504453
I lost Darkie. I fell down a pit, but the camera moved downward as if something was at the bottom, only it wasn't, the camera only moved to highlight that I killed another of the pack. Behind the cuteness this game is a sadistic bastard.

I haven't unlocked either of them yet. Plus I wouldn't risk losing either of them.

Alright, time to get my revenge on Baby Bowser, I am legitimately pissed off at Baby Bowser for killing my litter-mates. Also isn't he a little big? In Yoshi's Island DS he's small enough to ride on you. I'll just assume I'm a baby Yoshi, but that only makes the four Yoshi's deaths even worse.

They don't die, they become exhausted, and are captured and locked up in the dungeon. Pretty sure they return after beating the game.

Beat Baby Bowser (pretty easily, you could just spam Bob-Ombs until you won). Despite the easiness of this game, I really enjoyed it just for the atmosphere; pic related made me feel like I accomplished something. This really wasn't the worst note to go out on. It wasn't super difficult, but it was nice. This would be a game I wouldn't buy, but I'd rent the shit out of. I have to ask, are the trials worth adding to my playthrough just to elongate it?

If not, well, I beat the Gauntlet.

>> No.504706

If you liked the game, you might as well play through all the levels. You really only got through a quarter of them. Maybe find Black and White Yoshis.

But you did hit the credits, so that's pretty much a win right there.
