I've been getting in depth into the Strikers 1945 series and holy shit are these games good as fuck. Not perfect, some patterns are straight up unfair and have to be memorized (this is not something I usually say), but man, those bosses are fucking amazing and the games just feel right in terms of design. My favorite Psikyo games so far.
I'm a fan of their length as well, they feel very compact and fun to replay as a result. They very quickly get tense, which is something that's a downside for other shooters (think Batsugun's first few stages where's there's barely any challenge, neither survival nor score based)

is this b8 or stupidity i can't tell?

The only strikers that has unfair in it is the 2nd loop of the first one as suicide bullets are random trajectory, can be 1 2 or 3 spread randomly and theres no seal distance so you point blank die every enemy. What you call unfair is actually execution based learning, its not unfair at all it's supposed to be learnt properly and executed on demand which is great and consistent.

For the record, I'm aware and love the games. Just saying there's some memorization involved for survival, similar to R-Type but to a lesser degree.

Bump right before this dies

Why add the c, tho? Also, have you tried Galaga '88? Sweet ass game.

Hmm, well there is a shmup general going on right now, those whom would post here are likely over there.

I just got strikers 1945 a few months ago. Solid game, I never had a shmup besides einhander and I love ww2, so this game really fits me.

Nope, that thread was mine too and it died. I bumped this because that one got a few posts at least.
If you like the WW2 theme this series gets too weird, try Capcom's similarly named but unrelated 194X games (Capcom Classics Collection PS2 or MAME). 1943 in particular is very good. 1942 in that collection is simpler but still fun. 19XX is really good but it's not about WW2 anymore.

Looove this series. Strikers 1945 II on the Saturn got me into shooters, despite being exposed to them since the 80s.

That one in particular is on my top 10 games ever or close to it, shit's just tight. Flying Pancake kicks ass.
