so, it was de facto better than SMW right?

>> No.4819751

They're both pretty fun games.

SMW if it had no save feature > japanese SMB3 > SMW > SMB3

/thread I guess. Glad we cleared that up

Yes. Better controls and level designs. Only slightly better though as Mario World is still fucking brilliant.

not really. the only things smb3 had over smw was a few situational powerups and more unique worlds
yoshi made kinda-invincible-but-not powerups actually fun unlike tanooki, frog was kinda pointless when smw made swimming control a lot better
the only powerup that's maybe better in smb3 is the leaf, only because it's not as broken

but smw introduced a more refined object carrying system that was perfected with yoshi's island, had a clearer theme of a single environment made of several locales that's all connected together through secret exits and warps. the latter was kinda weak but 64 and sunshine definitely proved what smw was trying to accomplish

take all this and the fact that smw has better, tighter controls and you have one of my favorite platformers of all time

Nah, but its close. You cant backtrack in 3 which sucks. and no star road

>> No.4820746

The first time I beat SMB3 was a few months ago. I intentionally chose to do it without any cheats or warps. I ended up leaving my NES on for two whole days because of the lack of a save feature. Frankly I wish I didn't have to do that, I have no desire to play it again because of it. And no, I'm not going to start using savestates.

i mean it. smb3's controls are basically a souped up version of smb1's controls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FG_h0J0eMo

i have no problem with how smb1 controls in context of its level design but it's a tiny bit too imprecise for what smb3 tried to do imo

it's a shame all the nsmb games control more like smb3, those could benefit a bit from smw tier controls too

>> No.4820750

Yeah, the only advantage SMW has is being able to throw your shells upward and that's negligible. SMB3 has better level design, power up selection, balance, aesthetics, atmosphere, everything.

but smb3 is more precise

>> No.4820813

is the "mario world was never good" season again?
I've seen like 3 threads about trashing that game

I'm playing through it now. I love the vibe of all the whole but jesus fuck that second checkpoint in the vanilla dome. I keep getting game over in lemmy's castle and I am fucking sick of that level where you have to stand on the skulls in the lava while it slowly drifts along. it's so fucking boring.

Start using save states.

Just play all stars it's literally the same game and unlike SMB it actually looks good (though it lacks some of the attention to detail from the original)

>> No.4821461

>>4820740
A star road would be great but the no replayable levels thing was to avoid this >>4820746, Advance 4 had no excuse though.

>>4820748
And it benefits from it because SMW jumps may have more mid air control but having that much control over your jump would make the level design lose a lot of its edge.

Kenshin from Lebanon, if you have something you'd like to tell the rest of the class.

>> No.4822840

Yes but SMW is by no means a bad game.

>> No.4822884

I don't think anyone is saying SMW isn't good, just that it's a downgrade from SMB3. That happens a lot with sequels.

>> No.4822942

>>4819748
This isn't really the right way to use de facto. De facto is used when something is true in a mainly informal sense, but not in regard to matters of simple opinion. For example, if a group of people are working on a task together, and no leader is explicitly nominated, one person may still emerge as a leading force, who then may be referred to as the de facto leader.

levels to short
you cant re enter completed levels
no its not better!
