Nigga you can't just start a new thread right after the last one died, people will run out of things to discuss.

Post best music from each game, I guess.

Last Starman give out the highest experience and come in pairs of 3-4. They are good for grinding to Level 99.

Teddy is the best party member in this series, prove me wrong.

Nope, best party member is Boney, hands down.

Kind of? That's why I think a rolling cutoff of "at least 20 years old" is a better idea than "before the year 2000"

I like Jeff because has a Bazooka, and Bazookas are cool.
He's kind of a dork, though.

Indeed, Teddy is awesome, and I love him being on the team.
Do you think he tried to get the kids to smoke and drink too?

Teddy's kind of a loner, desu. Backstory info says that even though he's a gang leader, he hates hanging out with them and doesn't even wear their colours, preferring to wear his late dad's old leather jacket instead. He mostly drinks and rages to get over the feelings he has about his parents being dead.

When he's with Ninten I always saw him as the older brother type, who tries to be tough and confident for the team, but doesn't really know how to connect with kids so much younger than him, so he broods on his own a lot.
Kinda supported the way he fucks off for awhile during Ninten and Ana's dance to go stand outside the door, and only comes back when they're suddenly under attack.

I imagine teddy with more of a one track mind towards vengeance for his parents.
It helps cement his line about not being able to beat the monsters with pure strength.

(That line actually hinted at how to beat Giygas)

Earthbound went full quirk and lost a lot of grounded-ness of Mother 1's setting

>> No.4815676

>>4815664
I think that just comes from the localization being a bit bland and Itoi puttig his humor into the series more. Mother 1 still had stuff like Magicant, it wasn't completely grounded.

>> No.4815701

>>4815676
Magicant still has the explanation of being basically psychic limbo. and it's worth noting that most of weird enemies in the game are exclusive to magicant.

Mother 1 you were fighting Aliens, robots, wildlife and ghosts and cars brought to life by psychic energy.
Mother 2 you were fighting stuff like fobbies, mystical records, worthless protoplasms and ranboobs. Not to mention the addition of Mr. Saturns and Tendas to the setting.

Fair enough. I think this point can also be brought to the music, Mother 1's is a lot more simple while Earthbound's is really quirky, especially with all of the stuff it samples. I do kinda like how every game in the series has a different feel to it though.

They're incredibly different. I was initially dismissive of Mother 3 because of how dissimilar it was. But after actually playing Mother 1, I realized that Earthbound is far away from it tonally, too. All the games are different.

I think that comes from Itoi wanting to try something new with each game. They're his first video games, makes sense he would want to try different things with each one.

Sometimes I wonder why the 8 Melodies were even used in Earthbound.
Ness doesn't know the significance of the melodies. The game never even hints at any sort of significance. Unlike Mother 1, they're not used in the fight against Giygas, Paula prays instead. They're just arbitrarily assigned to weird locations in the world that "belong" to Ness merely because he's the player character.
Basically only there for branding purposes.

Kind of bugs me.

Also it makes me wonder how come Jeff, Paula and Poo don't have their own places or even Magicants. Why did they end up being so flat?
Why did Ness even have a Magicant? Is that a concept in the games' universe or was it unique to Maria, just recycled for Ness because of plot reasons?

I always thought everyone has their own Magicant, and you just need something like a sound stone to enter it.

>> No.4815956

>>4815881
That's always been my interpretation, too. Well, it's less that the sound stone itself is important, and more that it acts as a means to symbolically link the Your Sanctuaries together, which all cause Ness to recall some memory of his childhood and empower him. Then when he gets them all the sound stone activates and sends him into his own mind. The sound stone isn't important for what it is, it's what it's doing that matters. It could have just as easily been a miniature TV or a keychain that you attach little keepsakes to.

If anything it bothers me more that these sanctuaries exist, these bastions of natural architecture that apparently exist just to give Ness a boost and help him awaken himself, that have apparently come into existence independently of him for this purpose.
I know he's apparently the chosen one or whatever but damn, when the Earth just starts moving shit around to give you a nice place to remember yourself, that is pretty fucking chosen.

>> No.4815962

Well, ayys were completely fucking up the earth. I guess Mother Earth just decided "Fuck, I guess I need to get some kid to power up in Magicant". Giygas in Mother 1 isn't as much of a threat as he is in Earthbound.

>>4815962
Earthbound didn't really have much of a story even compared to Mother 1, and I think that's its biggest flaw. Still love the game though.

Itoi probably just wanted to tie it in to Mother 1. Some stuff like why the melodies bring Ness to Magicant could've been explained though.

>> No.4817471

Really just because if Mother has the choice between making a callback and not, it will always go for the callback. It didn't have to go with melodies, but it could, so it did.

>Really just because if Mother has the choice between making a callback and not,
Can you really say that? the games are so disjointed. Actual callbacks seem relatively reserved to small end-game sections, like EB Magicant or hall of Memories
