That's not odd at all. SNES and N64 boxes were made of fragile cardboard and the cartdriges themselves can be left on a shelf without trouble unlike CDs. I think the worst is how we treated our disks, we just threw them on the ground or a table. I went to pick up Spyro and Monkey Magic from a relative a bit ago and decided to check out how our old PS1 games looked. Scratches as far as the eye could see(She didn't touch them, in fact, no one did until I decided to rummage around), some of the jewel cases are broken, I'm not even sure if my of my Spyro games will run they're that bad.
Megaman Legends, Legends 2, and the Misadventures of Tron Bonne all have horrible scratches and the manuals are a bit ripped. I will never live that down.

There's also
>Buy GB(A)/SNES game
>Immediately pitch box and any and all inserts
Thinking about it now makes me want to punch myself in the head until the stupid goes away.

I sold MML 1+2 to a friend for $5 each. I for some reason figured that I wouldn't want to play through them again, and that I was being smart since they were going to a close friend, and it would get me more than from Gamestop, while also being much cheaper for him than buying a game at Gamestop.

I wish I could get them back, but don't want to message him out of the blue over a fucking video game, and he's a good person, so I couldn't imagine giving him less than a fair price for them.

Bro, Pokemans was the first thing I got interested in. Just to get Moltres I had to give an older kid 50 bucks. And to get said 50 bucks I spent 3 months doing literally everything around the house chore wise.

>literally
Adverb

In a literal manner or sense; exactly: "the driver took it literally when asked to go straight over the traffic circle".
Used to acknowledge that something is not literally true but is used for emphasis or to express strong feeling.

Meaning feeding our 3 fucking dogs, doing dishes morning and night, sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning MY SISTERS room as well as the rest of the house, hauling garbage cans down our 300 ft driveway, cutting the grass.. All at 9. For 50 measly dollars. So yeah, I think my dad and my sister know how i felt about that shit. And still i got spit on and told to "grow up" when at 9 I had taken on the responsibility of people far older than me and worked for something i loved. I hope they die sooner rather than later.

Hey now, those cards have sentimental value. Non retro-story but I have to keep a 1 year old from constantly destroying my niece's DS because my mother thing's it's a "toy." that shit is precious to children. Taking it for granted makes the other look like an asshole. I believe shit like that can make a 9 year old lose -all- respect for their parental unit if they can't recompensate or explain why they lost their shit properly.

As to stay on the thread, I'm pretty sure this doesn't count but I feel like getting it out of the way anyways since we're on the topic of depressive stories.

years later sell said SNES w/ 2 controllers and about 30 top tier games to buy a used N64 with 1 controller and Wave Race 64 (which I hated and instantly traded for Zelda)
years later my mom gives away my N64 with 4 controllers and like 15 games without telling me because she thought I didn't play with them anymore.
I never forgave my mom for that and to this day remind her of the incident.

Come to think of it, I don't remember ever seeing the boxes to any of the games I acquired as a child.

Super Mario World? Had it since I was an infant, so that memory is lost to infant amnesia.

Super Mario All-Stars? It just showed up in our house one day, as far as I can remember. Same with Mortal Kombat 3, though I think that one belonged to my older brother at one point.

When I got my N64, it was acquired secondhand, and had a secondhand copy on Mario Kart 64 with it. Though the N64 itself did have the box, and I kept that in my closet for who knows how long until my mom trashed it.

I'm sure I got Super Mario 64, Tony Hawk and Super Smash Bros. new, and I know I kept the box to SSB until it disappeared eventually, but I'm not sure what happened to the SM64 or Tony Hawk boxes.

The rest of my SNES games were secondhand, and when the sixth gen rolled around, I had absolutely no problem keeping a hold of the cases to those games. But all of my SNES and N64 game boxes eventually slipped out of my grasp somehow... I just don't know how.
