Hey /vr/, I'm here to give you guys some high-level gaming tips for one of the hardest Game Boy titles of all time: Gameboy Camera. I still haven't beat it, but I'll tell you what I know so far.

The Gameboy Camera is hard to use for several reasons.
>Only 4 grays (technically 8 due to dithering).
>Brightness and contrast are adjustable, but there is still constant automatic adjustments made by the software.
>Even the high quality GBA screens are not great for use as viewfinders.
Still, with a little luck and knowhow you can compensate for these problems and beat the game.

Because you have so few grays to work with, you don't get to work with subtle differences between colors. Point the camera at a tree's incredible swath of colors and the Gameboy Camera gives you little of that.
If you shoot on a sunny day, the camera will either be able to photograph only what is in sunlight, or what it in the shade, but it cannot display both at one. There just aren't enough colors.

Even, diffused lighting seems to be the best path towards beating this video game. If the Gameboy Camera doesn't have to do all sorts of automatic fuckery to compensate for dark shadows and bright spots, you can get shockingly clear photos. Well, maybe not clear exactly but you will get the message across.

Here's some more of that nice, even lighting. The camera can focus its lens 1-5 feet away from the subject, so for best results get close and hold the game boy very steady.

It's still worth experimenting with light and dark, it just depends on what you're looking for. I took this selfie while sunlight hit me thru the window. With a few in-game stamps I became a hella frickin edgy jrpg bad guy. Important gamer tip: this photo has dithering disabled which makes it look even bleaker.

Thanks to this thread, I can now game harder than ever before. Thanks so much, OP!

Always choose a complementary frame for your photos and use stamps whenever appropriate. These in-game options might seem silly in the age of modern photo apps, but to not use them would be to miss out on the depth of the medium. Use stamps or your gaming ability will not improve.

Once digitized, Gameboy Camera pics are easy to use (I'm sure the Australian posters appreciate the file sizes). With only so many colors and so many pixels in an image, you don't need any kind of fancy computer software to edit pictures. It seems to me that a talented pixel artist could realistically change just about any photo in any way. Personally I don't do this but you're entitled to game any way you like, emulated or no, cheats or no.

If you turn the contrast all the way up the photo is limited to only black and white pixels. If you have a subject with extremely contrasting features, you can potentially get infinite lives.

You may notice that your photos have a dour quality to them. You can fight it, or you can embrace it. You see, video games aren't just fun. They're also super deep, and totally art, and stuff. Gaming isn't embarrassing, it's a way of life. When people on the street snicker at you for taking pictures your Gameboy Camera, saying "why don't you get a real hobby, or job, or girlfriend?" just tell them that "gamers are legends, and that legends never die."

Do not become dependent on the cat frame. The convenience it offers in gameplay will lead to bad habits in the long run.

You don't have to worry about photography laws with the Gameboy Camera because the quality is so low that almost no useful information is created. Pic related, this is where Drumpf met those funny, nice ladies.

I like to have a GB Camera and Printer just for the shelve since most phone emulators give you the camera already.

Don't mind the widdle pistol. Picked it up the other day and haven't done anything worth it yet.

These pics is fuckin rad man. I especially like the second one. Sex as expressed through the Gameboy Camera is a very funny idea to me. I'd like to snap pics of nude bodies. Personally I would feel less exposed when photographed by the lo-fi G.B.C. instead of a super HD DSLR.
>>4800472
>i only wish the images were a bit bigger
I go back and forth on this. You could do a lot more with a little more, sure. Yet I think fun is had when battling against the limitations (shittyness) of the camera. To get a great photo you really have to leave luck to heaven. This is just in my opinion but I like games with RNG.
>>4801257
Okay I will, but later. Before I bought a printer emulator to digitize photos, I instead laid my GB Pocket directly on a scanner bed (I tried my GB Color and GBAs first but for some reason they caught less light on the scanner bed than the GB Pocket). I'll try to dig up those photos for you-- I mean, your friend.
>>4801381
Yeah it will, consider it a regular OG Gameboy cartridge. I know from experience it's fun as fuck on the SGB.

Thinking about your wish reminded me on this old pic I took on a long bike ride down a country road. When I see this picture, it brings back a lot of specific, pleasant memories. To you it probably evokes jack shit because it's a tiny muddy picture. It seems the clarity of what a GBC snap depicts has more to do with the meaning you project onto it than what is actually in the picture.
