Officially, Hamaguchi is supposed the tsukkomi and Arino is the boke, but neither of them acts like that. In most cases, it's the other way round because Hamaguchi is a natural boke and Arino has a lot more common sense.

Either way, mentioning that a thing exists is different than a discussion on it.

As for collections, yes, it's as fine as discussing a re-release of a classic game on a modern console. The game itself is still retro regardless of platform. Many people play Mega man on the PS2 collections. Really it's just another form of emulation.

The 10 playable wrestlers are The Great Muta, Jushin Thunder Liger, Hiroshi Hase, Tony Halme, Tatsumi Fujinami, Masahiro Chono, Riki Choshu, Big Van Vader, Scott Norton and Shinya Hashimoto, and seems to have been in production a bit too early, since Vader wasn't actually in the real life event.

the big problem here is that the translation isn't made for a specific audience. if i'm translating for an american audience, I wouldn't use "mega drive" and "colour" like some kind of cave-dwelling savage, i'd use "Genesis" and "color"

the translator(s) need to decide who the fuck their audience is, and translate based on that. if you need ファミコン translated as "Famicon" and fucking PCエンジン translated as PC Enjin then maybe go learn japanese? and stop whining about subtitles.

No it isn't. The point of translation is to convey meaning. You wouldn't translate 「心の準備しなきゃ」 as "if I don't prepare my heart..." because although it's as accurate as you can get, it's complete fucking gibberish in English. Localisation is a vital part of translation, it's how you get something that makes sense.

What's funny is that the SA subs are absolutely chock full of localisation to make the humor more palatable to the west, and yet you'll never see a single person complain about that side of things. Honestly, they do a really good job for fansubs.

>>4794493
This is probably the best format for Yoiko so far. Minecraft had the aimless homework and "beat the game" thing going on, DK had the mission system with a banana gimmick, this one is all about an introductory play to a variety of games. I wasn't that interested when I saw it was going to be indie shit, but they've handled it in a nice way with 2 games per episode.

It's just mindless nitpicking by brainlets because it's the one discrepancy they can actually notice. Would I personally prefer it if the subs said Mega Drive? Sure. Is it enough of an issue that I'd download someone else's version, or waste time crying about an American work catering to Americans? No.

Arguing about how something should be translated is about the lowest you can sink. If it bothers you, re-do the subs. If it really bothers you, learn Japanese.

It's like whining when they translate kacho to "section chief" because you know what "kacho" means. Great job dude. Want a medal?

Culturally, a fatalistic phrase like that is more than a bit uncommon, but native English speakers totally do say that exact phrase, and they didn't get it from anime and weebshit.
that being said, in English, you'd really more often say something like "well, that's life"

for shit like Mega Drive to Genesis or Famicom to NES -- there's no fucking point in changing those, all it does is introduce confusion (was this game released in the west? what about these JP-specific addons? what if the machine has actual non-cosmetic differences from the western model (shit, the Famicom has an asston of 'em)?)
and that other bit about "PC-Enjin" or whatever's entirely retarded, the machines have official romanizations printed right on them
localizing those names is stupid because only people already in-the-know about the differences won't be confused by it, and those people will be pissed

>> No.4831339

>>4829959
>native English speakers totally do say that exact phrase
They do, but the context is totally different. The "it" in "it can't be helped" can only refer to specific things without sounding weird, it's like using "there's no choice" instead of "we've got no choice". There are points where you'd use "there's", but you'd never use it in place of "we've".

99% of the time you'll see it is in low quality translation work where someone sees a stock phrase and translates it to the easiest possible option, instead of writing it in natural English. English has plenty of ways of saying that you just have to suck it up and do something, but lazy translators constantly fuck it up because they have zero skill and go for the "easy" way out.

>there's no fucking point in changing those,
If the group has decided to maintain localised titles, I don't really know why you're bitching. Your complaints are all meaningless, anyone with enough of a brain to listen to the dialogue knows the "real" names of these things, and if they're deaf they probably still know this shit from past experience. The subtitles are intended for a wide audience, and a lot more people know NES than Famicom. I'll never understand people who are supposedly "in-the-know" getting annoyed by something. I'm sure plenty of retro enthusiasts know "Commando", but a far smaller fraction know "Senjō no Ōkami".

>>4834185
Since we're on the topic though, I do agree with this, to an extent. People wouldn't have to pass the time by bickering about whether or not something or other was translated satisfactorily, they could talk about the content of the episodes. We could all talk about the new episodes every two weeks as they came out, it'd be fun.

He's in his 40s, not his 80s. No one's asking him to make frame perfect plays or speedruns, even though you can still do that just fine in your 40s too. But he makes like weird grandma mistakes that you'd expect from someone who never played a game before.

I think at least half of it is an act. You notice at those big events he'll do really bad until the very last attempt and then suddenly plays in a way where you can tell he actually knows what he's doing.

You can tell he fucks up deliberately for the camera occasionally when it'd be funny or narratively ironic or whatever.

It's rare that it's blatant, though. For the most part he's playing NES games cold (unlike the ADs who read guides and like... the manual), not for fun, and for so long that he gets fatigued.
And there's a difference between your favourite games which you voluntarily play and obscure shitware that makes strange decisions about controls and physics etc, so that inconsistency probably makes the skills less transferable.

Also he often does reckless stuff at the beginning of a run, but that's actually logical.

>>4845351
Or tldr:

Season 1 is about Arino visiting various major game publishers and interviewing big name developers, playing games with them, and having a short segment per episode where he tries completing a challenge in a given game. Sometimes this challenge is given a decent amount of time, but usually it just gets a couple minutes of Arino dicking around with the game a bit or completing some relatively easy task like getting a certain bonus.
In season 2 the format switches around, with the challenges being the main attracting and the challenge always being "beat the game", while the interviews get 10 minutes of the episode at most. There's also a new recurring segment where Arino and the crew visit a specific arcade.
Season 3 is similar to season 2, but replaces the interviews with a season-long segment where Arino tries beating the notoriously bullshit game Super Monkey Daibouken with some help from people writing in to the show with tips.
Season 4+ follows the season 3 formula, with each episode consisting of a challenge taking up most of the episode, an arcade visit, and a season-specific third segment.

Dynamite Headdy, my parents were the kind that didn't get you new games regularly so I have played that to death.

Watching him play that was absolutely terrible for me since it didn't even occur to him that gatekeeper only aims at your head.

They're giving Arino a quiz, and if he can answer it correctly they'll give him help with the maze in the game.
The question is "In the Quiz! Tonosama no Yabou 2 episode, Inoue vividly recalls the events of what year?"

Haven't watched that episode, so I'm not sure what it refers to.

IIRC, Inoue's eerily accurate knowledge of 1994 made them joke that he must be a time traveler or something.

Not that there's anything wrong with more Kaga, he's definitely one of the better ADs the show's had.

I guess Global 3 trolls/flames and Global 10 evading spam filter covers most of what he/they are doing.

It's probably that '/vr/ is flags' encoder either taunting himself or it's someone who supports him and wants to make the thread look dumb. We should just ignore it.

>> No.4866441

>>4866424
The thread looks dumb if there's only two, three people actually discussing the latest episode while the rest is about non-retro shit, drama and reposting old images.
It's like most care more about the environment than the content.

I don't understand why the Yoiko stuff was perfectly alright to post for a whole year and now it's suddenly not. It's just a little non retro stuff on the side but still related to this show. It's not like the whole thread is about it. It's never in the OP screenshot.
