I am into it. I enjoy seeing what others did with their Xbox. I have mine modded with a 500gb Pata drive, and for a while it was my retro machine & media center. I use UnleashX as a dash board however. Once I began to utilize the wii as a retro machine however, I realized how bad the xbox was for the same purpose. The Xbox works better for some systems, and as a media center however.

I know it is not retro, but I am generally talking about its use as a emulation device....which at first was its primary function. I have beaten lots of Snes titles on its shitty controller (only shitty for someone used to the Snes). It was a good way to upscale to a HD tv via component video cables. It does a good job with 32x emulation also IIRC. I found a version of Quake 2 designed specifically for the system that works great as well. Like I said, the Wii pretty much replaced most of its functions as a retro system.

I did paint it red to match the Wii actually. It was intentional. I also made the jewel "match" by using mahogany veneers to create something totally different.

I kept my prior desk CRT on the same laptop riser that my Mac currently is on, just oriented differently. I didn't think it was that bad for the DC when I did that at the time, or was there something aesthetically about the old setup that was off-putting?

The controllers are noticeably shrunken relative to the original, and I personally feel that the game lineup of the international version is a bit better since it has Kid Icarus, Startropics, and Punch-Out while the FC Mini doesn't.

If this was a year ago, I'd recommend FC Mini in a heartbeat over NES Mini if you really wanted one of the memeboxes since it wasn't been scalped as badly and comes with 2 controllers out of the box. But with the NES Mini re-entering print this June with a controller that can be detached and used with Wiimotes unlike FC Mini's, it's a bit harder to recommend as a pickup unless you either really strongly prefer the aesthetics or else having access to River City Ransom / FF3 in Japanese.

Be warned that if you're looking for actual accuracy, you're still better off just buying a flashcart and flogging real hardware. But as a little thing to tuck in a corner and screw around with, the FC Mini isn't bad, especially if hacked.

Sony KV-29X5E and Sony KV-14LT1E if im correct. The small one with the flatscreen is probably the best consumer CRT I have yet seen in terms of picture quality. The huge one has of course the drawbacks in quality and geometry, which I managed to salvage pretty decently. It has great sound and the big screen allows great multiplayer action. Both have RGB scart inputs, 29" has also s-video in the front.

and that's exactly why it's quite an unsightly setup. The giant switcher box on top of the PVM, the consoles that aren't even plugged in but sitting on the table anyway, the wii u gamepad and switch AND controllers also sitting in front of the TV, it's just a mess.

It's not done yet, but here it so far. The 2 big speakers in the middle are for retro, the 2 angled ones on top are surround for modern setup.
CRT is a Sony PVM-20L5 that has truly surprised me since it can do 480p output. The PS3 is used for PS2 because PS2 is ass and it can't do 480p on 85% of its library.

>> No.4784169

The only consoles not plugged in are the N64 because I just got it and the Wii. Where else would you have me put the Extron though? Under the PVM? Ideally I'd like to get a rack to mount it on but I have to rearrange my room first.

>> No.4784191

>>4784169
if it were me, I would lose the extron and use 3-4 consoles only with this setup. It depends what you care about though, if you absolutely want to cram all those consoles and have them ready to go I can see that being practical, but it's definitely not a good aesthetic choice.

>> No.4784197

>>4782613
You should definitely get a riser of some kind (or just make one out of scraps) for the PVM. The clean look is fine, you don't have to feel like you are bad at decorating because your space isn't stuffed with meaningless junk. Tenkeyless is pleb though.

Sometimes people just do that for the picture, so that we can see which consoles they have. They don't necessarily store them that way.

personally I don't mind having to manually switch consoles if it results in a cleaner looking set up, so I'll only hook up as many consoles as the space can comfortably accommodate. it makes me appreciate a few consoles at a time which can be nice too.
