It's not like you are going to play with your close friends for nostalgia sake anyway, so what's your problem?
I mean I'm using Hamachi solely to play with friends games that are otherwise impossible to play at multi in current year. I know it's not exactly /vr/, but this is how I have my regular Serious Sam playthrough - ask friends who has a free evening and we just set up Hamachi.

I beg to differ. Oovo IV is where it's at.

Also, anybody knows if this runs properly on Win 7 x64? Currently I am emulating the N64 version and with proper framerate it is a very enjoyable experience (and I like that music only plays in the last lap).
Interestingly, I recently replayed it on my old N64, too and noticed how I have to use different pods because of the framerate. With the slomo on the N64, the only viable options were Bullseye Navoir/Cy Yunga or Anakin Skywalker. On emulator with good framerate I regularly oversteer and kiss turns so I had to switch to heavier pods like Aldar Beedo.

Well, this is weird, because I don't have this issue with GOG version and original PC version for 32bit systems also worked just about fine.
The problem was about fan-made patch allowing to play it on 64bit systems. Long story short, due to modern hardware acceleration and the way how the patch worked, it all lead to situation the game was constantly recognising ANY shifts in direction and uneven ground as cancelling the boost meter, meaning you could never gain enough velocity to fill the meter, despite going at full speed. This was especially problematic with races where you had to make sudden speed spike (like jumping over a chasm), as it was easy to do normally, but patched version couldn't engage boost in time. The game was simply super-sensitive about it, unlike the normal 32bit version, where only hitting things and taking a lot of hard turns was slowing you down enough to cancel the boost meter from filling up and allowing speeding.
GOG version fixed this, as it works just like the original PC version of the game. So it's weird you are still having this issue.

Ohhh, I understand now. Sorry, it seems we were talking in two different directions. I was talking about the START boost, the turbostart or whatever you want to call it. Regular boost works fine, just like it should, it's just that I can't manage to do the power start.

Also, is it just me or do lots of pods look like househould appliances? Like, Slide Paramita's pod is basically just two hairblowers.

And just to make sure I was not being a retard - I just tested the N64 emulated version. Power start each time. GOG version. No power start at all.
Or is it different on PC? On N64 you had press accelerate the moment the 1 vanished.

>> No.4779072

>>4779035
>>4779040
It was tricky, but once you get it, you got it. You have to hit it when it's fading away. From the way you describe the N64, it may be a little earlier than that. Also, make sure you're using a button and not a trigger. I have accelerate on LB and LT so I can hit the start boost with the button and do the rest of the race with the trigger.

Also, sometime later I'll repost the times that were submitted last thread.

>> No.4779453

>>4779035
Power start should work just fine in all versions of the game. But you need to get the timing right in PC version(s), as it's very specific.
But it does work without issues.

The answer is Ben Quadinaros. He has far and away the best boost in the game, so if you know the track enough to always be boosting, you can make some serious times. The dude on top has also mastered sliding, which can make a big difference on tracks like Mon Gazza.

Alright, I decided to make a Google doc and populate everything that doesn't already have a list with my times from career mode just to have a baseline. Most are with Ebe Endicott that was not upgraded or with Dud Bolt (also not upgraded), so the times should be pretty easy to beat. The doc can be commented on if you want to submit times directly to it in between threads. As usual, provide screenshots of times. I'm trying to think if I'll accept bulk career time dumps with no screens just to fill out the boards, but I suppose it depends on if those times seem suspect? I feel like no one would cheat just to impress /vr/, but who knows.

protip: The 3rd wired tunnel that has roads up and down has a shortcut if you stay high too, you're gonna see some flags there that shows the shortcut when you get past the tunnel.
Also for the final turns before the jumps, release the thrust button before entering the turns and slide for a bit, then release the slide button and steer, it's way better than just braking and steering.
And always take the first turn of the 1st wired tunnel by braking and sliding at the same time.

This was kinda hard, because he is really bad and I did the mirrored course with hairdryer pod before that. I managed to achieve the 3 lap record with him, but had to try again and again until I also had the lap record.

Navior is way more broken, great turning and braking, short, nice but good boost, nice speed and accel and great cooling, the only downside he has is how fragile the pod is.
Quadinaros requires to have a perfect run to do his magic and master the controls of the game, Navior can crash a few times and still have a chance to win.

>> No.4790520

The stats are normalised, which means they're dimensionless, and only serve as a comparison, similar to the stat graphs in game. The normalised score is determined by 100x(score-worstScore)/(bestScore-worstScore). This means every stat for every pod has a score between 0 and 100, with 0 being the worst in class, and 100 being the best in class.

Hover height is pretty minor, it's basically exactly what it says on the tin. Fly higher and you fly over more debris I guess. It's just trying to show off the hidden stats in a way that's coherent with the in game graphs of the public stats.

Is like when the 1 is half dissapearing that you can get the start boost, also don't mash the thrust button to skip the cinematics or the game will take those as an input for the boost start.
But the main key of this track is not being boost happy and saving full boosts, they're way better than spamming boosts all the time.

I reinstalled it and it runs surprisingly well through on Linux through wine. Pretty much the only problem is that I get repeated button sounds instead of music on the main menu, and the occasional game crash (which IIRC used to happen more frequently on Windows). I'm not sure whether the fan on my T420 is just shit or whether I'm just using the wrong settings or something but it likes to overheat after like 2 hours of playing, making the game lag horribly.

God damn this game is such fun but the Ord Ibanna track on the final cup is fucking bullshit.

>> No.4792276

if you're getting those crash sounds on the menu, probably is because you have a cracked version of the game.

>> No.4792283

>>4792276
That's probably it, I installed from the original game disk (German version) but cracked it because wine didn't let me play it with the disk inserted. Don't really care, I never spend more than a couple seconds on the main menu anyway and the game runs fine aside from the overheating issue.

>> No.4792304

It's easiest to let go of the accelerator to get the most out of a slide. Also, start sliding well before the turn itself; it's less grippy than a drift in a normal game. Also, make sure you're playing at 30 FPS - the physics get fucked up at higher frames, making sliding a lot harder.

Is it just, save up for 4 pit droids, then buy the best parts in the junkyard? I usually just save up a ton then buy the best parts when I can only barely keep ahead, then that's enough to hold off until the end when you can buy the best stuff in the shop.

We already discussed it in this thread, buying parts from Watto AT ALL is absolute bullshit, as you will get the best parts only at the junkyard anyways (like the Block 6, or at least I haven't yet encountered it at Watto's, after the last invitational).
That said, with all the dosh you make at Amateur, and an unupgraded pod can hold its own even well into semi-pro, you should swim in money with full upgrades by the end of semi-pro. Upgrading in Amateur is a matter of taste and how jewish you feel, or if you encounter a red condition turbo coolant pump for 300 Trugs or something.

>> No.4795754

best way is save cash during all the amateur circuit and maybe sunken city, after that buy all the pit droids and only upgrade accel, turning and cooling, since your pod will only have 3 upgraded parts, the droids will only focus on those and they will never get damaged, and those 3 stats are most vital ones for the gp mode (top speed you can just wait till you get a faster pod like navior or sandage without having to risk losing money because of damage)

Grabvine Gateway is difficult with all those crazy turns, the whole swamp section and is easy to fuck it up and crash.

I only use the shortcut that is almost at the end of the track, the one that opens at the end of the track is kinda risky, specially for beedo's huge-ass engines, boost management is also has a big role here.

I would probably put Oovi IV before Ando Prime, but yeah, fuck Baroonda. Malastare is hard though, it is just so... irrelevant. Nothing standing out in a good or bad way either.

>>4806206
I hate Baroonda because I can't see shit. Either in the forest/swamp section with all that moss and leaves and such or in the volcano with the smoke/steam. I know this has a lot to do with memorization, but it's still worse than with the other tracks. And all those turns just take out the sense of speed and that might be ok for a racing sim, but not for a space racer with a speed feel like F-Zero. Which is a shame, because I really like the concept of Baroonda, compared to, say, Aquilaris

Because I really don't like how some of the racers from the first game like Ebe Endecott or even the 5 that weren't in the movie weren't in it. I was hoping they do what F Zero did, and add up on the racers upon the next installment. Instead, we get unneeded racers like Watto, Vader, and Maul.
