Thankfully, I could read kana and some kanji before I got into the series, so I've been a long-time fan of it. But my friends (for the most part) refuse to even give them a shot, outside of the two GBA OG games (which they did enjoy). The Gungriffon games have these great, semi-clunky controls that make it really feel like you are piloting this unwieldy, gigantic piece of metal with guns strapped on. I haven't played it, but I would imagine it is in the same ballpark as what playing MechWarrior 2 must feel like.

I do enjoy the SD Gundam turn based strategy games and the interface always confused my friends because they never understood how I knew what I was doing when I couldn't read Japanese.

The SD Gundam Generations series on SNES are a good place to start and are fun, but I really enjoyed SD Gundam G Generation F, because it covered every series that existed at the time and you had your own squad of MS that you took through alongside the story characters...I'm not sure what the story was there, maybe some time travel bullshit.

You can probably cheat it like most TRPGs by baiting the enemy by putting one unit in range of one enemy, getting that enemy to move once, then completely destroying it while staying out of the other enemy's range.

Maximize attack opportunities and minimize opportunities to be attacked.

That's about it for every TRPG, the only other thing is
>Find out what is OP and then do that forever
>Abuse any stupid turn order exploits (in Tactics Ogre there is no reason to ever care about any stat that isn't speed, speed does everything through the beauty of pure math)

that last part isn't much help for FM though most of those are player phase/enemy phase
