turn on the "arbitrary ride type changes" and "use any vehicle" cheats, then build your layout out of any track type that isn't LIM coaster track.

Only uses pieces that the LIM coaster has (no large loops, barrel rolls etc) or they will be invisible (but functional) when this is done. If you know how to merge, you can just merge on the elements you want.

adding these now. Worth noting everybody I have talked to said xbox rct1 is a really shit game too because the controls are bad.

There's no point to adding buggy's page, most of his stuff has been outdated or is low quality anyway. I'll link to the workbenches section of NE instead, all the good stuff is in there anyway and gets auto imported. I'll link to SpaceK and X7123M3-256's custom rides though.

Farms are difficult to get, hard to keep, but look great.
Basically you want a large square or rectangular area of light industrial, isolated from other zones. For best results, it has to be powered but not watered. If you want to keep them forever, make every square historical, and dezone any extra light industrial that the farm does not use. If you keep the pollution levels low, they'll stick around. The Farmers Market ordinance helps, and you can add water infrastructure after making it historical so you don't get that annoying "Left out of the Rain" ticker message that scrolls by when some zones aren't watered.

>> No.4733903

>>4733892
I forgot to add, you can't just zone huge areas light industrial, because small patches of conventional industries might pop up, and that'll add enough pollution that the farms will get the hell out of dodge.

Also, farms put unique vehicles on your roads. It's kinda neat.

>> No.4733927

>>4733126
The only real way I found to fix it was to have the exact same length of track leading to the first drop and have the chain lift long or slow enough that all other trains on the track have a chance to get over their block section.

In your coaster example this may be fixed by getting rid of the first helix element and starting with a straight chain lift. However sync coasters are quite difficult to cooperate with if you have more than one block section mid way through the track.

If you still can't get it to work all you can do is change it to continuous circuit mode and have the station long enough to accommodate the necessary number of trains.

Those signals must be part of whatever British track/stations set you are using, because I don't recognize them. It looks like you are using at least three different types of signals though.
In OTTD there are basic block signals, path signals, and the complicated pre-signals. Before path signals were introduced, pre-signals were necessary for most applications. Now, you don't really need to use them at all.

Treat path signals like stop signs, just put them wherever a train can safely stop, so that it is not blocking other tracks involved in the junction. Use one-way path signals as much as possible to avoid trains trying to go the wrong way, and use the unadorned path signals for tracks that are used in both directions (like leading into and out of a terminus station). One tip I will always share is to watch the speed your trains are going through corkscrews. Nothing will ruin a perfectly good layout faster than a corkscrew in the wrong place. I personally aim for the trains to enter them at 30-35 mph. If you're doing half loop into corkscrew, you'll want to have the train enter the loop below 50 mph. 45 mph is usually fine. I think it looks silly when a train struggles to get through a loop, so I aim for >40 mph when entering loop elements.

The branch leading up to the station is just too short. Ideally there would be room for trains to wait outside the station without blocking the mainline. Having a train stopped on the mainline waiting for a path into the station is just as bad.

I recommend placing the signal there, even on a too-short branch like that, because it takes slightly less time for the tail-end of the train to clear the line when it has a head start.
Luckily the arrangement won't cause gridlock because the path out of the station is kept clear. That station probably only has two trains serving it, so in that case entering trains will never have to wait either, because there will always be a platform free.
For a busier station you'd want to use a higher-capacity design than that super basic one.

I always get frustrated because I try to move the camera like a 3d game but there's no option for a 3d camera. The landscaping looks terrible and all the game controls feel floaty and delayed.

unlike rct1 and 2 it seems to high a higher perspective point so you are looking down much more then directly at stuff, so its much harder to see the details of what you're building.

That said it isn't horrible and is very promising, the devs seem really nice and are constantly updating it, so it could get better in the future.

Making something pretty takes a really long time (I spent literally an hour on a single planter box a few nights ago) but the result is really stunning. It's much closer to a casualised NoLimits than RCT3. If you want good scenario play, RCT1/2 and Parkitect are your best bet. It also doesn't take a beast to run, I get a flawless 60 on my 3 year old machine that was built with parts that were outdated at the time and not even high end.

All I'm planning right now is some Japanese graphics pack, because I've long accepted my weeb-ness.

The reason there's usually so much focus on train stuff is because that's the most fleshed out system in the game, while the other transport systems feel almost barebones compared to it.
There are some mods to expand the other systems but they still end up feeling lacking compared to trains.

The JapanSet newgrfs are great, probably my most frequently used set. I recommend loading all of them if you are going to use them (trains, buildings, landscape stuff, signals, tracks, stations, etc.). After that you will want newgrfs for all the stuff JapanSet doesn't cover. Even if I'm not planning to use non-train vehicles much, I like to load newgrfs for them just in case I want to use them in some limited way (like a cute little ferry going to an island or something).
Trams are awesome, so you should always have eGRVTS loaded at a minimum, maybe some other themed tramset if you find one you like, but beware that the costs will probably not be balanced with eGRVTS.
For planes there's AV8 or World Airliner Set which are both pretty similar. Load one or the other.
For ships, use whatever the most recent variation of FISH is (Squid Ate Fish?).
Road Hog is a cool tramset that gives you industrial trams that are like mini-trains. They look cool at least.
I also strongly recommend a bridge set. TBRS is good and has a variant that matches the Japanset graphics.

In games where you aren't using Japanset, you will still want to load a trainset and an appropriate track set (2cc and nutracks for example), a bridge set, a station set, and probably a building/town/road graphics set. Many station sets (like the Japanese station set) just include passenger stations, so if you are also going to do freight you will want something like Industrial Stations Renewal (and the various DWE station/object sets that mesh nicely with ISR).

That's the practical stuff. I also like to load eyecandy, so I tack on pretty much every newgrf with "objects" in the name at the end of my list. My favorites are Dutch Road Furniture (which gives you cool-looking but purely cosmetic highways) and MariCo, which is very cool looking dock stuff (but you can't get it from the in-game content browser, the author makes you download it from his website for some reason).

For quality of life stuff, changing some of the default settings is the best thing you can do. This guy has the right idea >>4739520

I have a much longer list of changed settings myself. The most important changes for me are being able to build while paused, drastically increasing the station spread, turning off breakdowns and forbidding 90 degree turns, and using the 3x3 grid layout for towns instead of the stupid random road placement.
A number of my settings are tweaked for playing with Cargo Distribution on. That's pretty challenging so make sure you know what you are doing if you want to try paying with CargoDist. Basically it makes, for example, passengers have a specific destination in mind rather than being sheep you can herd to anywhere.

>>4739497
>Is there any point to non-train stuffs?
Other vehicles can complement your rail networks nicely. When I play a game focused on transporting passengers (which you pretty much have to do if you want to RP Japan), I want my cities to be lively, sprawling, and always growing. Cities grow when stations in the city are serviced frequently. An easy way to achieve that is to make a little tram loop around the central blocks of a town. Combined with a busy train station, a four-stop tram loop will max out the growth rate of the city, as in this pic.

I prefer to use trams over buses and other types of road vehicles because I freely use level crossings in my urban train stations, and if there are any stray RVs around they will inevitably crash into a train eventually. Trams can't go off their tracks, so if I make sure not to put level crossings over any tram tracks, there is no risk. Industrial trams can be useful in feeder systems, or in some specific situations in FIRS (industry overhaul newgrf with complicated supply chains).

Ships are nice for some flavor. With MariCo you can build some amazing looking dock complexes, so you might as well use them. They are actually useful for marine resources (only oil rigs in vanilla, but FIRS for example adds several more). Ferries are inferior to trains from a practical perspective, but if I have a little town on an island or something, running a ferry to it from a nearby city on the mainland feels better than an unrealistic rail bridge.

Planes are OP so many people eschew them. I hardly ever use them anymore, but if you limit yourself from overusing them, they can add some fun flavor as well. The planesets like AV8 and WAS add hundreds of real-world liveries, so it's fun to see the colorful birds taking off and landing at your airports, especially if you use eyecandy object sets to make beautiful transit hub complexes.

What's the best day you ever had at an amusement park? Not the best park you've been to, the best day you've had.

>September 2014
>go to Washington DC with family to see the usual famed sights
>go to Six Flags America
>barely anyone there
>everything open except for the two water rides
>walk-on every coaster and everything else
>two rides on Superman separated by about a minute of walking back through the empty queue
>two rides on Joker's Jinx where the operator let us stay in the train for the second lap
>got to ride every coaster at a park I'd never been to before on the first visit.

The park itself is kinda weak compared to the two other Six Flags' I've been to (Great Adventure and my home park Magic Mountain), but god damn, what a great time. I only recently learned that their "Wild One" wooden coaster has been operating one way or another since fucking 1917, making it the oldest roller coaster I've ever ridden.

I've also been to Six Flags in Vallejo but it only has a couple coasters, only one being decent. Been to both these parks several times in the 2000's.

I've also been on the triple loop in West Edmonton Mall many times, it being the first coaster I ever went on in 02.

Also, they're not necessarily hard, but I hate doing the "park value" maps, or really any of the maps that start out with more than one rollercoaster.

I've been playing RCT since 2001 or so I've had some time to get halfway decent at decorating at least. Still no good at making custom coasters. Always enjoyed the landscaping more anyway. It's just a food court. I couldn't fit anything in there that didn't look like shit so I just made it a little rocky walk-through area with a ton of seats and food.

If the map allows me to buy extra room, I always make an isolated area where food and rides are free and pick people to stay there indefinitely. Sometimes I pick the winner of my Go Karts track in the main park, sometimes I find some random guest who has a red angry face and try to calm them down.

Economics in this game are strange. Tickets and food are about normal, but ride construction is off by 2-3 orders of magnitude and staff wages by about 1 order of magnitude. Multiply that that $80 by 10 and you get $40k/yr.

If you're the anon going through all the scenarios, I've been doing a similar thing having played the fuck out of the game as a kid, but never having the expansions before.

I don't remember ever unlocking Mega Park either, I always got fucked up with the one where you can't change landscaping.

Anyway, Diamond Heights is easy if you just keep building shit.

Almost fucking failed.
In like the last 5 days the park value dropped to like $200 below the objective so I had to scramble to make that shitty launch coaster and make sure vomit was cleaned up. Fuck that was close.

Diamond Heights down, on to Evergreen Gardens.

Also, as an aside, I've never played though the RCT1 scenarios before, or even a lot of the RCT2 scenarios. This some of my first experiences with this.
