Magic is OP and Magic Power is the only stat that matters.
Tools will curbstomp the early game with no trouble whatsoever.
Sabin is actually magic oriented, raise his magic power with Esper boosts and gear instead of his vigor and he'll be able to crush everything until the very late game.
Wait at the end of the floating continent until 5 seconds are left on the clock.

at the part where the princess turned into an esper and flew away

the girl with the paint brush is the most powerful character in the game be sure to use her "sketch" attack as often as you can, it works really well on invisible enemies
if you use vanish and xzone spells to kill bosses you can get extra copies of rare items like the genii glove and the ultima weapon beam sword

don't tell him that terra/tina is actually the last boss of the game though it will spoil it

Get Edgar the Drill and Flash ASAP. Chainsaw is overrated.
Figure out what Rages are worth having, and try to get Gau at least one of them to turn him from garbage to OP. I got Pearl Dragon one game, it's not even one of the best but it was still pretty damn strong.
Don't be afraid to do some serious grinding before going to the Floating Continent. After it's all done, your team will be split and you may have to end up using some characters you don't normally use. I neglected Celes and Sabin my first time around and that first battle with Punaba or whatever his name was became nearly impossible.
Make a copy of your save just before the Opera. Outside of the ending medley, and the opening March on Narshe cinematic, it's one of the best music bits in the game.

You don't need a single tip to play a jrpg, let alone FF:

> Sabin ... crush everything until the very late game.
Given that bum rush starts hitting 9999 in his 30s if you've done a halfway decent job of boosting magic power, I'd say that "until very late game" is an unnecessary qualifier. He can still one-shot half the enemies in the last level.

One thing I wish they were more explicit about is if you win in the colosseum you still lose the item you bet, so you're not really wining an item so much as exchanging it. So don't bet anything you don't want to lose because it's gone either way.

The problem is that it has to compete with AoE 9999x2 to 5 depending on what you have, which makes it somewhat gamebreaking and a lot less when you realize that there are multiple multitarget fights in the lategame.

Killing bosses with the vanish and x-zone trick makes them not drop items and you can miss out some very important things, like a Magicite shard you will need during the Fanatics' Tower.

This so much. The drill is nice.

Saving before the opera scene in a new entry is also a good idea indeed.

Another tip I would like to add: don't let the beginning turn you down. It is a little bit easy at first.

Make sure Gau learns Rhinox as a rage. Casts life 3 randomly on your team. Useful af. you meet Rhinox the first time you get into the factory I think it is...before meeting cid. Awesome having life3 early game.

The game is piss easy since every character practically STARTS with a "hits the enemy and ignores defense and costs no MP" attack.

Well yeah, Ultima is overpowered as fuck and on the short list of abilities that outdo Bum Rush. There's also Setzer and Locke who can get 40k+ damage in melee. By the time you've leveled up to the point where you have multiple characters able to multi-cast Ultima, the "end game" is a complete joke except for a few pesky assholes like the Retainer with his "Ruin" attack (which Ultima doesn't help with anyway).

If by "end game" you mean "maxed out half your roster" then yeah Bum Rush is just decent (but still decent, mind you). But if you just mean "reached the most difficult content in the game" Blitz is still very useful.

Don't immediately jump from the floating island when you reach the end (it's a timed section near the middle of the game). Once time is about to run out, Shadow comes back safely and you don't lose him for the second half of the game.

Give Mog the snow muffler, paladin shield, dragon boots, dragon horn and let him solo the final boss by jumping on them repeatedly.
