Personally I love game-breaking shit, my favorite was the genji glove in FF6.

Math Skill in FF Tactics. It transforms an engaging game about tactical combat in a grid-based 3D environment with intuitive rules about time, space, and MP resources into a mundane meta-game about exploiting multiples and primes of arbitrary numbers associated with various units on the board.

Orlandu is overpowered sure, but at least lol999 stab just one-shots small tightly packed groups of enemies from a limited range. Math Skill can wipe out the whole board in one turn, or turn everyone into frogs, etc.

Genji glove is not that overpowered by itself. You get increased damage but sacrifice the shield slot, and there are lots of overpowered shields in FF6 (at least in the WoR).

Genji Glove is only OP combined with "special formula" weapons like the ValiantKnife, Atma Weapon, and Fixed Dice. And usually then only with the Offering (or "Master Scroll" for youngfags who have never played the real version of the game)

The Onimaru in Granstream Saga. You get it very early in the game before even leaving the first city, but only in a very specific room (Church Basement) used once for a cutscene and never afterwards, and after using some item on a nondescript wall tile you never face normally.
It's twice as powerful as the best end-game weapon.

Monster World IV has something similar, the debug merchant who only appears if you never talked to any of the NPCs that save your game but before you advance the plot to meet the queen for the 4 major gates when the game really begins, and if you check a nondescript place in a barren area behind the city and press up.
Merchant sells the best weapons in the game, and an armor equivalent to the best one plus the ability to edit the story flags for your pet (which means you can now double jump even in places not supposed to allow you to, makes the last dungeon muuuuch easier) and just in case you can't afford it, he gives 9999G everytime you talk to him.

So I went, completed the game 100%, and went back to fight Majora.

Why is SotN such a weird game?

Why do I have to equip food, throw it and walk into it to use it? It's not really a complaint so much as a baffling question. Then there are those street fighter combos for magic spells and getting a wolf speed booster even though there's hardly any corridors that let you use it, and doesn't really seem to serve a purpose.

There's a rare sword in the game called Muramasa. It's a pretty shitty two hander by itself, but it gives you a permanent blood heal effect, and every time you trigger this effect by drawing blood from an enemy (with actual blood sprites and all) the sword gets a tiny bit better.

Well, you can take the sword all the way up to +999 ATK, which requires over 1 million blood heals. Which will take you over 200 hours of real-time gameplay. And some people did it on the real hardware.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/196885-castlevania-symphony-of-the-night/75632107

FWIW I replayed SOTN recently on an emulator and checked out Muramasa. I used Cheat Engine to find whatever variable it increments and yeah the damage maxes out at about 1 million blood heals. Insane.

But Crissaegrim (Valmanway) is still better because it attacks much faster.

That W-Item materia in FF7, the somewhat hidden one that let's you duplicate items. Stock yourself full of Megalixers and never fear anything short of Ruby Weapon. Make tons of the stat boosting Source's, and you can push everyone to insane levels of power without leveling. Felt like a debug item left in by accident since it was in such an obscure location.

Genji Glove and Offering are powerful in FF6, but I always felt the Drill was insanely OP. Fuck their dodge stat, you're dealing damage. Edgar with all three, and the Atma Weapon and Illumina combo, was effectively a one man army. Add Flash for crowd control and away you go. He never failed me in the Coliseum with that gear. Of course, had to get rid of all other tools to prevent him from trying to use the fucking auto crossbow or bio blaster.

Using the Naginata in Bushido Blade was so OP it was a good way to lose friends. The range and the quick forward stab you could do were very hard for someone to fight against, and the CPU didn't stand a chance. You could beat the entire game with honor by waiting for them to swing, dodging it, then approaching them from the front and stabbing them in the stomach. A polearm like that had no place in a game primarily about sword combat.

Earthbound wasn't hard to begin with, the Heavy Bazooka just sucked what little challenge that remained out. AoE attack that costs nothing to use, and does good damage in lategame. There really isn't a point in getting Jeff weapons to use after you get it, since he'll never be doing normal attacks unless you're jamming A through an easy fight, or go auto-fight.

>> No.4756252

Hit both attack buttons at the same time, thats how you activate shield combos basically.

The only balanced part of the alucard shield is how late in the game you find it. But it will destroy anyone including bbeg dracula. Devs must have figured it was balanced because it cost mana and shields could be stopped by hitting you with a trap or fireball, but this does not balance it really since you can turn around so quick and smack guys with the shield.
> machineguns 255 damage on enemies and gives 8 health each pop.

>>4747886
agreed, it does too much damage and the ammo is everywhere

>>4750682
kinda/sorta
in the first game the regular Minigun was OP because ammo modifiers didnt multiply damage output only bonus damage. While DR modifiers affected both DR and DT
> even with just 1 rank of bonus ranged damage you can clear out the BOS bunker with a Minigun and plenty of AP ammo.
> without it they only take like 30 damage per burst, but with 1 rank BRD they take about 80 per burst
give it two ranks and BOS power armor will be giving you flying-apart-death animations as they take over 100 points per burst

>>4754534
It isnt a game breaker but it is stout and can nerf the shit out of some encounters. In the first game the Barons were the ones you wanted to use this on because they took so damn long to take down, it was a decent grace to playability.
> its balanced by doing only one thing, and eating 40 cells at a time doing it
> you cant break that off into anything smaller, you cant use it as a plasma gun if you dont have one
Its not good at a distance either, the main projectile only does about as much damage as 2 rockets and its highly random. In later mapsets where cyberdemons are located on faraway pedestals the plasma gun is key to taking them out with short bursts.

Hammerhead is OP as hell in Twisted Metal. In the sequels he got nerfed, but in the original he was death incarnate. His special did a lot of damage, and his high defense meant he could ram for massive damage. Between the two, you never had a reason to pick up weapons. Just turbo. Ram and run over, repeat. Heal when needed. You could ram fucking Darkside to death and still have plenty of health remaining. This little girl from Mother 1.

Her stat growth goes off the fucking rails past level 10 or so, if you manage to keep her around.

You can also use flare/holy spellblade with the combo to make it even more broken. X-Fight does take 999 AP on an otherwise crappy job so it's unlikely you'd get it on your first playthrough. Also some fights thwart the combo, like Neo Exdeath who has invisible and invincible parts meant to soak up X-Fight attacks.

Rapid Fire (ranger) Dual Wield (ninja) Spellblade (mage knight) was such a famously OP combo that it became Bartz's EX burst in dissidia.

also worked very well with the two blood swords in the game, which normally have terrible accuracy (rapid fire always hits) and absorb HP from the targets (special damage formula isn't cut in half). every turn you'd deal ~12000 damage and heal yourself the same amount. watch out for necromancers.

This, kind of ruins the games too.

Sonic 2 is more fun without, 3 is already kind of ruined by being designed around it.

>W-Item
The duplication bug was actually introduced in the international and english versions of the game. In the original release, if you selected one item and then cancelled out, the first item was consumed and gone forever. Square trying to fix it gave us the infinite megalixirs and sources we all know and love.

Stupid amt of grinding to max out those classes. Tamer/Beastmaster is the most broken class for speedruns. Capture the right monsters and you can kill any boss in a few turns.
